rear end decision. please help
I have a nice day driver 69 gmc that i am doing a frame off. It is my first build of this caliber and you guys have been a great helps so far so here goes another ? . It has a dana 44 on leafs. I am keeping the leafs, should i keep the rear? I exploded the differential doing a burnout, (the cause of the rebuild and need to completely rebuild it. I also need to change to 5 lugs to match the new front discs. Should i use the housing, installing new axels, limited slip, and gears, or just get another rear to build? It has a 383/700r4 combo. If i should keep it any ideas on the carrier options and axels. Thanks again.

Re: rear end decision. please help
I have a 12 bolt laying around, came off a 68, so i still have the problem of 6 to 5lug and its an open diff. Almost the same cost and I would have to weld new perches on. Is the 12 bolt stronger? I also have acess to a 12 bolt out of a 90 gmc. any thoughts

Rebuild the Dana 44. It is better then the 12 bolt unless your wanting to go cheap.

Re: rear end decision. please help
I'm rebuilding my 72 Chev, Long Fleet, 402, w/coils, into a very mild resto mod driver. It has a 12 Bolt rear. What is a 12 Bolt rear as to Manufacturer etc.? Al W.
