Quick i need help!!!!
I had to do a lot of work to the front brakes of my 68 and im at the part of putting all the new bearings back in. i have all the races in everything when i put the inner bearing in, it fit fines and i went to put it on the spindle it stopped about 2/3 of the way there and it wont move back any further. I go the bearings from Napa, so did i get the wrong inner bearings or what? The guy at Napa said they'd fit just fine but now its not letting me put the drum all the way back on. If you know anything about feel free to help me!

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
Will the inner bearing slide all the way on to the spindle by itself?

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
Go to the NAPA website and look up inner wheel bearings for your truck. Cross reference the part numbers with what the NAPA guy gave you. Might have got the wrong bearings by mistake.

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
No it only goes about 2/3rds of the way on it and then it stop.
And I don't have the boxes that they came in any more, which was probably a mistake on my part.

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
i just looked up the bearing number on the back of the bearing. Its LM48548 if you want to look it up, but when i looked up that number, it took me right to bearing for my year truck.

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
The very reason I stopped dealing with NAPA (not saying this is the case) but several years ago. I bought some parts that were the right part number and everything checked out right, but they didnt work. Went to Autozone and the same part number from Autozone fit just fine! Napa would not give me my money back, so I have stopped using them! Just a thought!
My other thought and please dont take this the wrong way.....Just asking. Verify that you havent got the inners and outers swapped!!! |

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
just had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back, the old bearing spun a spot on the bottom of the shaft causing a small swell and the new bearing would not to slide in all the way, I tried 2 bearings from different companies to no avail, I just repacked the old one and left it.

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
Can you file or grind the burr off and get the new bearing to fit?

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
Yeaa that's what I ended up doing. There is a old time hotter/bike that live two houses down from me and he helped me out. He told me to get some emery paper and use it one the spindle like a shoe shiner shines a shoe. Now everything fits like a glove.

Re: Quick i need help!!!!
Over the years when I was doing several brake jobs a day I had to do that quite often when a bearing had spun on the spindle.
