That looks like you'll have piston to combustion-chamber interfereance ! Are those pistons correct ? Was the block line-honed. It sure sets high, that's hardly any quench at all..

block has been line honed. like i said in a previous post the machinist straight edge is level with the deck and piston at the pistons highest point.

Part of proper engine set-up (I'm a little rusty), is the space between the piston top and the flat part of the combustion chamber. They call it the quench area. If it's just right (something like .045" to .070") then the piston comes up and swooshes the exhaust gasses out of that area fast and the gas-velocity cools the head down preventing detonation. Just something to be careful of, I don't know of any head-gaskets that thick is all...

thanks for the specs. once i get the bottom end done im gonna put the heads and and adjust valves and turn it over a few times and check how close everything is. what is that playdoo looking stuff you use for that?

I think modeling clay. But that is a different spec. With that you're measuring piston to valve clearance with the cam installed and hooked up.

The piston to head (flat part of the chamber) is what I was worried about with that piston setting so high...

Keith Black says .040" is okay, with .035" minimum. You'll need a thick gasket I'm thinking...

ya im going out in the shop in a bit to put the other 4 pistons and rods in.

ill measure it with a mic to see how much its sticking out. Im pretty sure the gasket i bought isnt going to work its compressed thickness it .041 so there is no chance. I found this copper one with .072 so i think it might work depending on the measurements i get later today.

I have always been recommened to run MLS gaskets with a blower, Any idea on how copper would hold up?

I have a line on a 3 3/8 fuel pressure gauge... we will see if that works out

You can see here the headers were rubbing the frame just a little bit i had to trim the frame maybe a 1/4 inch.









Heres the main reason i spent the kind of money i did on the headers. No more ground clearence problems.. SWEET

did cam break in tonight. ran awesome, went without problems. Heres a few videos they were taken with a crappy cell phone so they are not the best. Now on to the wiring and driving.

Well a little progress the whole cab and back half of the truck is wired and working. just put the front end on last night. now i got to get my carb rebuilt, install aluminum radiator notch the shroud for the blower and hook up the head lights.

I am very glad to see that front end back on.

Say did you paint the bottom of that grille black? And when did you put on a bed cover?

yes the bottom of the grill is black. when i bought the truck the previous owner had a roll pan and had that part of the grill painted red to match the body. When i painted it orange i thought it would look better black then orange so thats what i did.

If you go back to when it just got painted and i had it all back together there was a bed cover on it. I have had the bed cover way before the bbc.
