Bad EGR valve, VERY rough idle?

I realized that my EGR valve was completely trashed! I had a problem with the idle and replaced the carburetor. ( I needed a new carb anyway) With the new carburetor it would run MUCH better but still wouldn't idle. If I hold the pedal a bit, it runs fine. You guys think the EGR valve is to blame? I ordered a new one and I am going to replace it, but just wanted some other opinions.

if the egr valve is sticking open a little it can definitely cause it, i have seen them stuck so far open that it wont idle at all

Pretty much where I'm at... haha. The diaphragm was shot (i couldn't even push it) and the three small bolts that hold the diaphragm to the main casting were all broken. So it's a safe bet that this could be the culprit. Thankfully I needed a new carb anyway...
