Question-Rear Sliding Glass
What NOS rear glass weatherstrip was used with the factory sliding glass?
It appears that the one needed for the slider is the one w/o the trim molding? Somebody out there knows!! Thanks, Dan |

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
I understand you could get with trim and w/o. The question is what rear glass weatherstrip was used to install a rear slider? Thanks, Dan

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
Are you asking about the actual window seal or the fuzzie that the sliding windows slide in?

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
if you have trim you use seal for trim if no trim you use seal for no trim

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
Not sure you can get an oem gasket for these anymore. I will do some more checking with our suppliers. So a NOS might have to be the way to go. We sell a replacement gasket(black Only) for the aftermarket sliders for $50.00. But its for replacing a oem plain window with the aftermarket slider. Not sure its the same as the factory slider

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
I'm not sure Mike. It was in the truck when I got it. Is there a way to tell?

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
I don't know the differance between the factory and the aftermarket. I grew up with these trucks new and no one I knew had a slider cause all my friends and relatives had basic trucks. could not afford fancy stuff. Most I did see was in camper trucks and did'nt really look at them much. I am sure GM did not make them. One of their suppliers did I would guess. They may be the same as aftermarket one now.

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
I have always thought that the original sliding windows were the aluminum/stainless outlined windows, not the black ones. I have been known to be wrong once or twice though. Trevor

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
Dan,
Here is what the Chevy book shows w/o stainless for a slider. 3940758 71-72 Ser 10 thru 30 (cab) w/sliding rear window 71-72 ser 10 thru 30(cab) (exc. C.C., C.S.) 3940756 71-72 Ser 10 thru 30 (Cab) W/C.C. C.S. (exc. sliding rear window) If you need the WS wo stainless, I have an NOS I would sell for price of Repro. Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
See that is what I meant by my first statement. The factory sliding windows are stainless framed windows. The black framed windows are aftermarket windows. I do agree however that your upper trim package trucks would get the stainless trim weatherstrip, and the base models would get black rubber. Trevor

Re: Question-Rear Sliding Glass
Guys, I appreciate all the info!!! It appears that the slider could have come both ways, with the parts book painting a different picture! I was always confused why? Chevrolet and GMC, actually GM as they did it in the cars as well, would each use different suppliers for the same part. I would guess the slider that will accept the ss trim allows clearance and the other dosen't. Thanks for everyones feedback and John H for the wonderful pics of your gorgeous 72 BB SG. I'll PM you on the seal. Thanks All, Dan
