Thanks for all the comments and pics guys. I to am wondering what kind of box u would need to put 12s under the seat. There isnt a whole lot of room under the seat. Let me know and keep the pics comming guys. Thanks

I solved the speaker location problem by relocating my tank from the cab and putting it under the bed. I've got lots of room for the 2 10's behind the seat in boxes and 6x9's in the doors. Sounds good and hits hard for a 40 year old truck!

How tuff was it to put the 4 inch speakers in the dash, and do you have any advice, I think I'm going to do that this weekend.

For those of you wanting to go the subwoofer route all I can say is do your homework. I found that with my seat at the stock height, I could have fit 10's with a mount depth less than 4.5". I raised my seat in order to fit Visoniks underneath. Raising wasn't a problem because I have a Grant steering wheel (smaller than stock). They had a mount depth of 4.75" and a top mount of about 5 1/8". I used 1/2 wood for the box and mounted the subs from the top in order to keep the sub away from the seat (refer to picture, you will see why).

Another thing to look at with subs is their reccomended enclosure volume. Mine were recommended for .65-.85 cubic feet and with my math skills, I figure I have around .68 cubic feet. Under a stock seat you will probably be lucky to end up with .5 cubic feet if you mount the subs from the top.

As for an amp, I recommend getting one that is fan cooled. I have a Pioneer 760 (125 rms per side) that is bridged and it only takes about 45 minutes at 2/3 volume and the amp is too hot to touch.

I also have a bit of an interesting mount for my other speakers. They are mounted under the dash on a piece of pressed cardboard. The PO did this with the crappy old speakers and I used the holes he made. Pictures of that tomorrow if I remember.

Also, I must add that if you like bass, you won't regret putting 10's in. I had a 8" koss bass tube and 2 other 8's in a box in my old truck (80 Silverado). I was satisfied with them at the time but the 10's in the 69 are way better. At 35% volume the 10's hit harder than the 8" setup did at 85% volume.

12's under that seat wont work for a dang... there is simply not enough space for an adequate box. Read up on reccomended enclosures volume any 12 or 10 for that matter isnt gonna be to hot with the actual space you've got under there.

I picked up some neodymium subs that are real shallow depth and can handle low volume boxes.. they dont thump like a regular sub but provide good sound and decent bumping.. this is from a guy that's run 12's in the back of a blazer before so...

You've also gotta be careful that when you sit on the seat that the springs and such under your arse wont bust the sub up..

I also had to raise up my seat to fit my audiobahn 10's in there. I have a stock steering wheel and it is still not a problem.

We just finished putting in a radio, also. We saved the dash but we cut the door panels for 6X9's. We put the radio in the glove box. It is kind of hard to change the channels if you misplace the remote.:p We put two 8's under the seat, with a 50 watt amp. it is plenty loud enough in that little cab. Plus with clear satelite radio it is great. We would love to put 12's under the seat, but I think we will wait to see how good Landon's sounds with his box Line-x'ed to the back of the cab. < where the tank goes > We are looking at mabe 2 12's or 4 10's, he has not decided yet.

GMC71k20, "free air" subs are meant to be mounted on a baffle using an area like a trunk for the enclosure. The term is a little misleading. You want a sub that is optimized for a small sealed enclosure for under your seat. A pair of 10's, 4 or 2 8's would do well under there in a properly designed enclosure.
