Advice on steering column and shifter

Hey guys, I need some advice on either rebuilding or replacing a steering column in my 69 C20 w/ TH350. I currently have a straight column (non-tilt) with auto shift on the column. By the way, this all started from wanting to rewire the truck (which I haven't done yet). My turn signal switch is shot, need new canceling cam, bearing, safety switch, etc.

Is it better to just buy new column with all items installed, or try to rebuild? A new column might just set off the restoration (and probably my wallet).

Can I install a new tilt-column?

If I can use a tilt column, how hard is it to convert over to a floor shift, and what would be needed to do the job?

Anyone have any remove/replace threads or info?

I would just replace it with a tilt column.

Was thinking of doing the same thing to mine once I get to this point.

The new after market column will be a good way to go if you have the money. The non tilt are not that hard to rebuild. If it needs a new shift tube it will take about $150 in parts.

Thanks. Has anyone converted their steering column from automatic column shift to floor shifter? What's involved? Also does anyone have any steps on removing the original steering column and reinstalling a new one?

Not answering your question but just adding on to:
68 here and I was thinking of taking a column out of a late model truck, anyone know of what will fit and look good? I have 4 in the floor.

I ended up installing an Ididit tilt column and Lokar automatic shifter (Nostalgia model). Worked on it last winter. Very happy I did. I put in the chrome column. Looks great. The Nostalgia style shifter really sets it off too.

That's pretty neat. I would go with one of those Ididit columns, but I don't have the money to afford one. I also can't seem to find any of those van columns in Pick and Pull, as they don't last long if they are in there. I just said "screw it" got the column out of the same '84 Burb that I got my seat from. Has anyone worked with those? I can't seem to find any info.
