Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

I'm going to relocate my fuel tank using the LMC Blazer tank. I've been searching on here and have found a bunch of ideas. I was hoping not to have to do any metal work, so I was thinking about using a late model Jeep Wrangler filler neck and after market access door. I am searching junk yards for Jeep Wranglers so I can get all of the guts for this installation. All I will have to do is drill a hole in the bed side. Any thoughts on this?

I don't think that those type doors look good on these trucks. Maybe I am old fashioned, but you asked for opinions.. WES

Opinions are always welcome! That is my biggest fear is to take away from the stock look of the truck, but this seems like the easiest/most accessable way of getting fuel into the tank without doing a bunch of body work. I am going to think about putting it behind the marker light, that seems the least evacive of the ideas I've seen on here.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

The PO of my truck put in a filler in the bedside from a late model truck and i have often wondered about the same application you are looking at. Another option would be an H2 fuel door. I am surprised nobody has done this yet. If so i would like to see a pic. You can pick up the Wrangler fuel fillers pretty cheap on line. The curve of the bed is the tricky part like the previous post said. Wranglers are FLAT. I would not want to distort the bed side for a fuel filler.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

I got a fuel door from a mid 90's chevy fullsize. I may do the sidemarker filler still. Do you have to cut the inside of the bed up? IS THERE FABRICATING INVOLVED? Or is it just being nifty with your hoses...

that sounds funny..

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

I am not sure about the filler in the marker light but the inside of my bed has a notch for the filler neck with the later model filler. The side marker looks like the same elevation but i have not seen pics of that done yet. I am sure there is a thread somewhere on the board.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

If you like the idea of the Wrangler filler... forget about the outside of the bed... put that puppy on the inside wall of the bed.

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

I picked up one of these. For a Hummer H2. I like it because it doesn't have the chrome rivets or hardware on the trim ring edge. It secures from the back side. And it is lockable. Its made of billet aluminum too. If I end up using it, I think it will look good mounted on the outside of the bed or inside. Just my 2 cents though.

+1! wouldn't look bad on the inside

also, I have seen somewhere on here where it was behind the marker light (as mentioned earlier) Very trick!

Re: Jeep Wrangler Fuel Filler Door Question

I can understand not wanting to change the stock apperance of the truck, I'm the same way. I went with a 69 Camaro tank that fills behind the liscense plate. As you can see it sticks down a little below the bumper, but you would have to be looking for it to notice.

I would in a heart beat, the only problem is that I have a cab-over camper that I use on occation. With the filler inside the bed, it would be very difficult to fill'er up. Same with the tail light mod. I love the idea of the marker light, but I believe the hole is just too small and there is the possiblity of cutting yourself on the edge. Another option that I have not been successful in finding parts for is the stock blazer/'burb filler. But I think the Jeep door will be cleaner, it just will not be as vintage looking.

Thanks for all of the input!
