I'm getting close to driving truck- need some help please!
Ok, I'm about ready to get the truck out of the garage for the first time- I have a car show on May 30th that I've been trying all winter to get ready for. I have a few problems I need to work out still, and I need some help guys! thanks for your time!
Ok, first thing- hazard lights don't work. I just swapped in a different interior wiring harness/fuse panel and now they dont work- they didnt work all the time up til then though, so could the problem just be in the turn signal switch? The turn signals barely work, Im getting ready to replace that switch. I have new fuses in the panel and new turn signal and hazard relays also. Next question, Where can I find parts for the manual choke setup? It's a '68 250 6cyl. - I already got a new choke cable and bezel and knob- just having trouble making it work the carb- I dont have any brackets or linkage, and dont know even what's it's supposed to look like. Help! lol Also, I can't get the dipstick tube to go in the block, I've tried a few things and it just wont work. Does anyone know where to find a 6cyl 250 dipstick tube? I can find new V8 ones all day online. Two more questions, bear with me! I'm wiring in an aftermarket tach- I have the tach wire connected up to the HEI tach plug, and I have a ground- Where should I get key on/run power from? and where should I hook up the lighting wire? I dont have a wiring diagram so I dont have any idea. Last question, Does anyone know where to find the factory part numbers for the wiring connector pins? I need to re-pin one pin on the harness going to the turn signal switch (half oval plug) and NAPA has catalog with pin with factory GM cross-reference #s so I would love to know which one to order. Thanks again for everyone's time and brainpicking. I love this website you guys are always so helpful, and can't wait to start driving my truck! |

You can call M&H wiring about your pin out question, they may be able to assist you.
The choke cable can be picked up at most of the vendors, and if you're not picky I saw a bunch hanging on the wall today at the local Napa store.

I have the cable, it's whatever it's supposed to mount to in the engine compartment that I need- right now I have it stuck in the hole on the choke lever on the carb- but that doesnt work very well- I know there has to be something in between

are you lights barely working like there dim or ? the grounds is important so i would check them and clean them, also i have never had my back hazards work on my 71 the front lights will flash though on the tach i would wire the light wire to the LPS (lamps) terminal on the fuse box if it has one, and your ing. hot to the ing. terminal anyone feel free to correct me if wrong

For the light on the tach i hooked directly to the headlight switch with a spade connector i had an empty space on the switch and it worked, you might give that a try.

hmmm, thanks for the answers guys, my carb has lever on the front for the choke, but I may be able to engineer something to work. and pointing out the connections on the fuse panel for the tach really helps! thanks again.

Re: I'm getting close to driving truck- need some help please!
ok, I got the tach installed and wired up today, works great. Also started taking the column apart to change out the turn signal switch. got it all apart except for the section where the shifter used to be (3 on tree has been changed to floor by PO) - what is holding this part on column? It looks like there might be a roll pin where the shifter lever used to be, does that sound right?
