Re: 1969 GMC Short Fleet Build

Thanks guys for the kind words. I feel a little guilty because I had the work done by a shop, however at 61 with health issues, I just did not have another restoration in me. However I will learn to to live with it!! and I have lots left to do myself.

Hey Nate, what do you think the truck would look like with a little white paint on the roof and lower panels? Maybe even a lower woodgrained molding?

Mike,

Thanks for the Kudo's, sorry about twisting your arm buying the new wheels!! but I bet they look sweet on your truck and you got the five spoke version which is what I wanted to do, but could not spring for the extra cost of converting to five lug.

Re: 1969 GMC Short Fleet Build

Had a Extreme Bedliner spray in today and an Alarm installed by the same people. I went with the "Extreme liner" after reading good reviews about it. I have an "Extreme truck center" two blocks from my house which worked out fine. I am very happy with the results, I'll post pics tonight.

Yeah, "Extreme" is the new kid on the block. Texture and shine wise they look alot like the LIne-X bedliner. Kinda Glossy looking.

Cool! I'll be waiting for the pics. Are you going to stress test it for us to see if it's as strong too?

Re: 1969 GMC Short Fleet Build

Well, I have the Door re-build parts coming in I hope by the end of the week.
I plan to get the doors gutted this friday afternoon and have them finished by the weekend.

Tomorrow I'm taking the truck across town to Pyle Brothers Differential shop. I have decided the 3.73 rear end is not going to cut it with the new Turbo-350 tranny. The truck shifts into second at about 7 mph and third at about 25 mph. At freeway speeds the engine is really humming. I'm having a 3.08 ring & pinion with a Auburn limited slip diff installed. Man, isn't this black hole ever going to fill up.....? but I'm having fun....

Re: 1969 GMC Short Fleet Build

I think the addition of the lower mouldings would look great.
But it's too clean to do a two-tone paint job.
I vote to leave it one color.
Any thoughts on lowering the rear,... just a little more?

Keith,
Yeah, I agree with you about the two-tone paint, I was just messing with Nate I am going to lower it in the rear about 1 1/2 in. using lowering blocks. 1 1/2 inches should be about right. The front is about where I want it.
I may add the lower moulding, can't decide on Woodgrain or Black and Chrome. What do you think?

Re: 1969 GMC Short Fleet Build

I really like the woodgrain in a weird way. (I just think it's cool looking)
And would look good with the color of your truck!
I don't know much about GMC's,... I assume the Sierra Grande's came with the woodgrain mouldings.
I think alot of people attach the lower mouldings with 3M adhesive tape to cut down on all the hole drilling.
I think the trucks without the "paint divider" cab moulding look best with just the lower side mouldings.

Keith,
I'm leaning toward the woodgrain moulding also.

I spent yesterday afternoon at the Pyle Brothers Diff Shop on the Far East side of Houston getting the Ring/Pinion gear changed out from the 3.73 to a 3.08 RP set. I also had a Auburn posi-traction put in. I'm glad I made this change when I did because the tech at Pyle's showed me the bearing races from my diff. They were pitted pretty bad. He said it would have failed with-in a month. The truck Drove real nice the 50 miles on the freeway back to the far West side of Houston. The Speedo appears to be reading correct now. I need to to hook up my GPS and test it to be sure.
