MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

well ive recently started a new project picked it up in november last year figure i should post it.... Well the picture on the trailer is how i got it...it has a 79 front clip on it the coils were hacked past the point of suspension travel the rear was flipped and welded which broke as soon as i drove it off the trailer....It had a 350 with a turbo 400 which come out in a quick hurry....

What ive done.... well i put a air ride suspension in it all the way around 2600lb bags in the front with 3 inch spindles and 3800lb bags in the rear they were a tight fit with a paralelle 4 link and parhard bar..... i swaped ou the steering column, the pedals for a clutch pedal set up,, hydraboost system... trans tunel. I traded off my 08KTM 450 for my new drive train...i got a 12V cummins with 200,000km on it all accessories and wiring, a new NV4500 and a luk hd clutch...i never rode the bike much so it was a good deal for me...

I also purchased a 87 chevy dually 4x4 only for the box the farmer from around here wrote it off smashed the cab in so i picked it up for 600bucks....well i yanked the 454, the box, and the steering colum, hydraboost break system, and clutch system for my dually...

Re: MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

well heres a few more pictures for everyone...the engine is in and most of the wiring is now finished the trans crossmember is almost dont im going to finish it when i lift the cab off....I got a broken mirror off of a 07 chevy and made it work so im going with the telescopic mirrors on this one...the times when ive not had any ambition to work on the truck i have been searching paint colours which i have chosen dark grey up top light on the bottom and a half inch black stripe to divide the two....on pic of the front fender just quick paint and pollish to see if i liked it.... i have more pics of the engine going in but i havnt shrunk the files yet...more to come

Re: MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

well hopefully these pictures help you....i dont have any of the front except the one you see its pretty stright forward in the front.... the pan hard i put it over the diff and with the bend because when its slammed it just clears the top of the diff and when it comes up to ride hight it sits centered...

Re: MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

well like a few people in a thread about gauge pods for the 73-87 truck...i looked and looked for something and i emailed autometer asking if they had a plan to release something...sadly i got a reply of there isnt enough demand.... anyone else seen the list of what there is "demand" for lol....anyways i since decided to build my own....i purchased a pyro and boost gauge and a guage pod from a friend of mine in town it was out of a 06 D max....time to make it fit.... heres the frist shot of glass over the pods which i trimed to make work....this is my first go a glassing something so hopefuly if it turns out if not ill try again..

Re: MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

Nice truck and nice build! I know a guy in Texas that can get the pillar pods made. Only problem is we need to get 50 people together to get them made. I think he can do them in 3 or 4 gauge. I purchased a quad pod for my 95 ford from him and his pods are $75 shipped. I know I could put in for 3 of the pods so we only need 47 more. If you think we could get enough, I could start a thread about them and contact him to verify price.

Re: MY 81 GMC dually 2wd Cummins

well ive been doing some odds n ends on the dually lately... ordered a clutch master cylinder/slave cylinder from south bend clutch... made a plate for the fire wall and welded a bracket on the clutch pedal to make it work...

Also pictured is the cadi light bucket i may get around to next month... currently im repainting a 91 chevy with a 6.2 for another guy....

Also pictured is the throttle bracket n cable i whipped up..... the cable is a 36" cut to length from lokar worked great....

thaks for checkin the truck out...as far as clearance its about an inch off the centerlink..with the truck slammed the oil pan is about 1 inch lower than the frame actually close to the bottom of the front crossmember.... i cut the trans tunel so i could get the bell housing tucked in a little better...other than that it went pretty smoothly...

Billet rain caps? Not the flappers right? I would just get some stack socks. IMHO the flappers look dumb and are for a farm tractor. But that is my opinion too.

Are you using stock pump, turbo, injectors and so forth on the Cummins?
