gas gauge

Sup familia!!!!!!!!
I have finally rebuilt my motor tranny and have endless goodies on my 72 , problem is that i cant seem to figure out why the gas gauge doesnt work properly....

help
when the key is turned open the gauge reads 1/4 but when i start the truck sinks to e!!!!!!!
yyyyyyy??????

acid cleaned tank, new gas gauge, sending unit, gas lines, float from brothers

Where does the dash gauge read if you have the key on and you disconnect the wire from the tank?
