12 bolt

I Have a 70 k10 and looking to swap in a 12 bolt instead of the 9inch i have installed now and was wondering what years I need to look for for a direct bolt in?

look for the years of our trucks. a 12 bolt isnt that hard to come by. is it a coil spring or a leaf spring truck?

If it already has a 9 inch under it, why the heck would you want to swap a truck 12 bolt under it?

Too bad your not closer. I'd gladly swap you a 12 bolt for the 9 inch. If you can get past the fact of having a Ford part on your truck it's a much stronger rearend.

Having a ford part on my truck is my biggest issue just looking to have it more original. Just curious what make the ford 9inch stronger then 12 bolt?

im not too sure but i know a gm 14 bolt will fit really well..... just did the swap on the 67 last week!

The pinion bearings are larger.
There are 2 pinion bearings on the shaft, and one on the nose.
The pinion offset is greater resulting in more surface are contact on the face of the ring gear.
The axles are positive retention style at the hubs, no c-clips.
The housings are arguably stronger(depends upon the style/year)
The center section can be dropped out in about 25-30 minutes to make gear swaps MUCH easier.
You can set up new gears on the bench.
You don't need case breaks on the diff carrier for deeper gears.


I am sure there are more good reasons, but those are among the most common.
