Re: New wheels and tires! :)

I need to ask a dumb question - It appears that you have the same size tire all around. Do they line up to the fender the same amount? (Can't tell from the picture.) I have noticed that when somebody runs the same size on all four that the front tires seem to stick out farther. Until I can verify this I won't be able to purchase rims and tires.

Nice truck by the way!!!

Re: New wheels and tires! :)

thx guys....Hopefully i'll get it lookin as good as some of your trucks....I have the interior to do and i want to lower it but haven't decided on the best approach for that..I was thinking a milk 3 to 5 " drop..the only problem I have is that it's a cst truck and has leaf springs in the rear...I know I can put lowering springs in front but not sure how to lower rear the safe right way....

I have 235/70/15's all four...i think they line up with the fender the same...ill post a few more pics....I mainly did the same size so i could rotate em...I do want to lower a few inches tho...(too much blank space between fender and tire)....Oh and I got the rims online from David's Rally Wheels...very good prices and quality and customer service. !

Re: New wheels and tires! :)

You have good taste

I had almost the exact same set up. My BFG's are just a little different (longtrail TA's.) After 4 years I did a little change and swapped my derbys for a "smootie" center cap.

Not a dumb question at all.

When GM added disc brakes in 71, they widened the front track width. They also did so with the rear axle as well. So, in general, 71/72 trucks have a wider track width front and rear than 67-70 trucks.

So, then you get guys like me who swap 71/72 disc brake front ends onto our 67-70 trucks and we still have the "narrower" rear axle. THEN if you add aftermarket drop spindles to the mix, that WIDENS the front track width even more (I think 1/2" per side, but not 100% on that.) So if you have a 67-70 truck with the stock 6 lug rear, with drop spindles and disc brakes up front, with the same size wheels with the same back spacing, then yes, it could look a little funky.

My truck looks "OK" because it's a stepside, it's a little harder to tell. I have 15x8's all the way around with 4.5" of backspacing. However, whenever the heck I get around to dropping my truck I'll most likely buy a set of 15x7 rims for the front with 4.5" back spacing, because I am concerned of how it will look, just as you are

Re: New wheels and tires! :)

Thank you sooooooooo much for the explanation. This has really been bugging me. So since I have an un-modified 68 I should be ok putting the same size tire and rim all around right?

Not a problem. You should be fine. I ran the same 15x8 "wagon wheels" around all 4 corners of my truck for many years and they looked the same all the way around to me.

I've always thought these trucks looked best with the wheels tucked under just a little. In my opinion, 8" rims with a 4.5" backspacing look great all the way around.
