lowering ?s

im wanting to lower my 72 but dont have the money for a decent set of bags... and i was wondering how low u can get ur truck without bags.. and wat parts do i need to get it as low as possible??

5/7 drops are easily achieved while still being able to drive the truck. How to get there depends on the the truck.

The front drop is basically front spindles & drop coils. The rear could be a flip-kit, shackles & c-notches (leaf suspension); or drop springs, lowering blocks, & c-notches (coil suspension).

ok need a little help ..... I want to lower the rear of my truck it has leaf springs and i see that you can purchase a flip kit .... well i am too cheap to do that .... and i really don't want to hack the frame up... can i just take the spring apart and use like one or two of them to get my ride a little lower i mean i really don't want to be on the ground .... just a little lower like 1 or 2 inches would be great .... if anyone has pictures that would be a great help also..... thanks

Sure, you can remove a leaf or two. But you will get what you pay for. Both your load capacity and ride will suffer. I removed a leaf from the rear of my s-10 and it became quite bouncy and couldn't handle any kind of load. Not even a set of tires. So, to answer your question. Yes, it can be done. But, at what cost.

Flip kits are about the cheapest way do go, you don't have to notch on most. I fliped an 86 without a notch and it was fine.

I agree with most of this statement, but it does need some clarification. You can remove the thick overload leaf for a 3/4-1" drop depending on the thickness of the leaf. That alone won't diminish your load capacity under "most" circumstances. If you pull another leaf out of the pack, your load capacity does start to diminish some.

Using your S-10 as an example is not a good comparison. They have fewer springs in the pack, and a much lighter load capacity to start with.

Regardless of what specific vehicle you use as an example, the results are the same.

Thats just not true. I have lowered several trucks by removing springs from the rear leaf pack. The end result depends on what you started with. If you have a HD spring pack with 7+ leaves and an overload, removing some of the leaves will soften the ride, but will not render it incapable of hauling a moderate load. Fact, not internet fiction.

Where can i find 1.5 in lowering blocks for a 69 cst with a coil spring rear end?
