swapping from 2x4 to 4x4

Help! I have a 1972 Suburban 1/2 ton two wheel drive with a 402 cu. in. and turbo 400. I also have a 1968 GMC K10 sitting on a 1973 4x4 frame (home made mounts) I would like to 4x4 the 72 suburban with the brackets and axles off of the 68 I am told the two wheel drive frame and 4 wheel drive frame are the same and all the holes are already in place and that I just have to remove the brackets and bolt them onto the two wheel drive frame (after removing ALL of the two wheel drive equiptment Thank you for any help

Welcome to the forum mjetie71. My understanding is you may have to drill a few holes, etc but it's a pretty straight swap. Check the 4x4 forum for threads on the topic.

Thanks N2TRUX I had been told it was pretty straight forward. Another local truck nut said it was pretty easy.

I am more familiar with 73-87's but the 67-72 have a very similar front frame. Considering they offered a 4x4 Burb in 72, my gess is they made the frame capable of going either way.
