frame numbers???

I'm workin on my 62 SWB 4x4 today when i noticed some numbers stamped into the topside of the lefthand frame rail. I'm wondering what they are for. any info would be great. also lookin for some pics of the stock v8 mounts for this truck. mine came with a 235 but I am replacing it with a 327 and wondering what the stock mounts look like. I have seen people use the 235 xmember and make a bracket to adapt a small block but it seems kinda hokey. I would like to see what other people have come up with as well as stock pics if possible. thanks.

is it a full vin number? i just went to take another look at my cab and frame so the one on the frame is a partial vin. it doesent match my cab but i know it wouldn't as i have a c cab on a k frame. i wonder if i can use the partial from the frame to determine what it was originally. the fram number reads: J103132

J=Jonesville.according to the 1963 Shop Manual VIN decoder. There was a GM Truck plant in Janesville Wisconsin that has been closed down. Book must have a misprint, O instead of A.

thanks, all. now how about some pics or ideas for the v8 conversion. never done one before. I am capable of doing the work but would like some ideas as far as safe engineering goes.

I don't have any pics, but what would work the easiest would be the motor mount crossmember from a '67-'72 4x4. One from a '73-'87 would work with modification, but they do use a different style motor mount. Those two later style mounts tie both sides of the frame together, which I like better.

As for the original style, I believe the '60-'66 4x4's all used the same style of mount. You can see them here in Aerotruck's build thread.

Here is a pic of a very nice aftermarket motor mount crossmember. It is marketed as a '69-'72 part, but I believe they would be a bolt in for a '60-'66 4x4. You could always give Kert a call and ask him. He's a nice guy.

I have the two V8 mounts from the 64 4WD but is your frame on the 62 not wider in the front end? I had a 62 4WD years ago. Loved that truck.

not sure. i know there were changes to the frame at some point but not sure when. I can measure the 62 at the I-6 crossmember inside to inside and we will see if they are the same. I've been lookin in mags and online and there aren't a lot of parts available for my truck. most of the repop stuff is for the 64-66 and a lot of the pre 63 parts are listed as 2WD specific, for example the body to frame mounts in LMC. I've never bought anything from them but the catalogs are good refernece.

hell yeah! cant wait to see it with a tire mounted, but I'm missing the other pieces. I measured my frame at about 29 inches (with the tape folded against the inside of the frame) and some change it didnt look like 30 though. I will cross tape it with two to be sure. i dont think the 67-72 mounts will work with a 4x4 because the lower end rests on the x member/subframe. do the 64 mounts share a hole with your bumpstops? that would make it much easier to locate them. measuring the 327 it looks like the center of the motor mount is 16" from the back of the block where it meets the bellhousing. on my frame the motor mounts will sit right where the brake lines mount and go from steel to rubber. I also know the 2wd 62's have a boxed frame, but mine is formed plate like yours. i'm really not sure what year the frame is because the numbers don't match my cab. I wonder if there are any other ways to tell? it has the close knuckle dana 44 up front if that helps, not sure how long they ran those. some jackass butchered the frame horns front and rear in favor of some ****ty home built bumpers. how tall are your frame rails?

No the motor mounts do not share a rivet with the bump stops. I measured from the face of the bell housing to the center of the motor mount on the drivers side for a total of 16 1/2". The frame height is 5 3/16" high, the mounts themselves are 4 7/8". As for the frame width, the PO must have had a hell of a ride before he put it to rest in the field cause I've had to straighten the frame to put in the 292 offset mount, which shares 1 rivet with the passenger side bump stop ( see picture above post #14 ).

As for your frame, my 62 was not an x frame either.
