Guys with no mirrors..
Was curious if you guys that arnt running mirrors ever get pulled over for it, I have the dumbo mirrors on my truck and have to get out and fold them in every time I back into the garage and its getting annoying. I cant put the sport mirrors on until the body work is done other wise it will look stupid with 3 big holes..

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I think it probably depends on where you live and how observant and strict the cops are in your town. Around here I have never been hassled for not having them. I took mine off as an experiment to see if I could live with shaved mirrors after I have my truck painted. I have driven the truck without mirrors he last few months and in my opinion it is a big hassle. I never realized how much I use my mirrors. I constantly find myself attempting to check them and simple things like backing out of or into the garage are now a pain. I will be putting mine back on shortly. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
Just my opinion, no mirrors leads to problems. I'm just running a mirror on the driver's side but really need the right side mirror as well.
Mine are repros of 69 Camaro/Chevelle type round mirrors. I think the round mirror looks good but the tried and true GM sport (rectangular) mirror looks right at home on our trucks.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I'd also check your safety inspection laws(if your area does safety inspection). Most places require at least one mirror.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I agree with the posters above ^^.
Been driving with just the rear view for months & haven't been hassled yet. But.....I miss 'em. Having a short bed helps but getting on the hi-way & backing into tight spots, suck. Thinking about trying door edge peep mirrors. http://www.lmctruck.com/features/cbe/cbemiu.htm Last edited by dnorris009; 07-07-2010 at 09:06 AM. |

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I wouldn't risk it. I put small '78 Camaro mirrors on mine. They're pretty much useless and I've gotten used to driving without using them.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
Most states require at least a driver side mirror. My uncle found this out the hard way on his truck. When he bought it the mirrors weren't installed. He never bothered to put them on because it looked good without them. Needless to say he got pulled over. He didn't get a ticket, but was told he had to have them. He called other local, and state law enforcement agencies and got differing answers to the question. So it's really up to the officer to whether it is enforced or not.
baclay you may want to stay away from the Norman area. |

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
no doubt man. I have a new set of doors that have dumbo mirrors on them I am about to put on. I think I will just stick with them. I bought a set of sport mirrors but I really like the look of the dumbos. They just belong on these trucks IMO.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
A little trick when i was in your situaton.... set the mirror where you want it and put a sharpie mark from the mirror post to the base, then you can get em where they're supposed to be with no guess work.

Eventually I will get around to installing the good doors I have with the factory sport mirror mount holes so the current setup is just temporary. It looks a whole lot better than the ugly rusty trailer mirrors. In your case you will do it right when you paint the truck so it is just a temporary fix to get some better looking mirrors on there now. Paint the bolt heads body color and they won't bug you as much.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
No mirrors on my 73, had a peep...but it was useless and I never used it. I was taught in drivers ed when I was a kid, always look over your shoulder when changing lanes...still do to this day.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I really dont even use my mirrors, because I have folded them in so many times they are loose. Doesnt matter how tight I tighten the bolts down, they are just loose. So loose that when im driving they get folded in so its not like I use them anyways. Wanted to just take them off for the time being until I get to the body shop.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I shaved them off my 76 before painting some years back. I bought those drop downs from lmc that you can mount anywhere on the lip of the door. Put them on to pass inspection but didn't look right with them on. I learned to be very observant of the vehicles around me while I drive. I actually got pulled over for my turn signal. Cop asked me why I didn't use my turn signal turned out to be a short. He never noticed that I didn't have any side mirrors. Seemed like everyone I asked didn't even notice til i pointed it out, could be the color of the truck.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
that's how i did it too.now that i have them on i don't really use them.i drove it for several years without mirrors.around here if it's a show type truck the cops will leave you alone if it looks like your going to a show or something.iv'e never been pulled over for it.but,if it's a daily driver truck i would put at least some dumbo's on.sport mirror's aren't a hell of alot better than peeps.i just put on some sports.i did it too add a little bling in that area.

Re: Guys with no mirrors..
I took off my passenger mirror on my '82 swb and filled the holes and ran it like that for a month or so, then i did the same to the driver side. i just bought a $14.99 mirror set from advanced auto parts but i only used 1 for the driver's side. when it rusted up i took it off and put on the other one.
I was also trained to look over my shoulder in driver's ed, and i do it in any car, with or without mirrors.
