s10 rear end question

I am doing a 1950 s10 swap (the s10 was wrecked not tearing down a perfectly good truck). In order to do this I have to used a 4x4 rear end. Are any parts of the 2wheel drive interchangeable. I can get a housing but not sure about the condition of the gears. Could I use my internal workings on the 4wheel drive? The 2 wheel drive rear end was rebuilt a couple of years ago.

Re: s10 rear end question

I think the rears are the same other then the width as long as you are not using a 8.5" rear.

Re: s10 rear end question

Is the axel from a ZR2 - 4X4? If so, it's a completely different beast. All other 4X2 and 4X4 used the same rearends. A little more information would be helpful.

The rear axle from a 2x4 is narrower then a 4x4. I remembered after I had laid in the mud and paid for the axle shafts.

Re: s10 rear end question

and some 8.5" ring gear and some 7.65" ring gears, if its the same ring size the internerals will all work. axle length varries. could always get a 8.8 out of an explorer for it too.. a little tougher rear and usually pretty cheap too, good way to go disk brakes if you go new enough rear

www.car-parts.com find one there I got a stock 3.73 posi complete with disk setup and the yoke for 125
