Unhappy Motor Oil in Vaccum line from Carb to Distributor? Need help to stop this

Hello once again I have come to problem that I think needs some attention fast, and I want to fix it before it ruiens my Distributor. I am running a 454 with Proform 67200 - Proform Race Series 750cfm Carburetor & a MSD Digital E-Curve Pro Billet Distributor on a weiand Intake Manifold. I noticed oil coming out of the vaccum line when I went to change it .(Yes the oil is in the line I blew into the new line after a few more miles of driving it and more oil came out. Why am I getting oil in that line and how do I stop it before I ruien my Distributor? Please help... I also think it is causeing my my carb to sputter when I get on the gas. Thanks again in advance....

Where do you have the vacuum line connected to other than the distributor? It should be hooked to the carb on a vacuum port and there should be no way any oil can get there.

post a picture of where you have it connected. If you have it on the carb above the throttle plates then you may have whats called reversion. Its where air/fuel/oil mix comes back out of the carb usually due to severe blow by or a leak in the intake manifold gaskets allowing oil into the runners.

Ive seen this on our stock car were the seal in the dizzy goes and lets oil up top. pull the cap and see if theres oil in it i bet thats your problem. The vacuum is actually pulling the oil through your dizzy.

Just a thought Curtis

I do have a leak in the back of my intake manifold that I have tried to fix once and it came back then took it in to get fixed and it came back Now I am about to take it in for a third time to get fixed on Friday. Do you think that is my problem sounds almost like what you explained above?

Re: Motor Oil in Vaccum line from Carb to Distributor? Need help to stop this

i have a similar problem but its fuel in the same vacuum line. it only happens when i run my demon carb. it wont happen with the edlebrock.

i used to get oil in the bottom of my dizzy, but that was due to an incorrect PCV valve.

The vac. advance is under the electronics plate. Here is a cutaway view of it. The only way I can see oil getting in that hose is if the advance unit is leaking and causing the dizzy housing to go into a vaccum which will also cause oil to pull up through the seal.

Nice pic. So where does the vacuum hose hook in to it?

It hooks to the silver barb that points down out of the bottom of the dizzy just to the right of the cutout.

Not sure but it looks like the vacuum could be pulling oil up through the distributor shaft and you would never know it. Have you put a vacuum on the distributor to make sure the diaphragm is still good in the canister?

It's just a vacuum transducer and not a can as we all know and love and since vacuum sucks I agree with all that it's coming from the dizzy and not the carb.

With the electronic board on top it would be hard to see if there was oil in the bottom.

Re: Motor Oil in Vaccum line from Carb to Distributor? Need help to stop this

You are pulling vac. from a constant vac. source below the plates of the carb. Because you are at a constant vac. source and the dist. uses engine oil for the bushings it is possible that since it is a fresh motor and after seeing burnout video and listening to it is pretty healthy(ie good rings high oil pressure etc.) you are pulling oil up past the seals in the distributer. I would put the vac. advance on a PORTED source above the throttle blades and see what is happens. If it does not stop, the seals within the distrib. are gone and need to be replaced to start with.

What brand distributor is that? Never seen one quite like that before. Good find on the cutaway drawing.

If the oil is coming from the dizzy (which is the most logical source) then it's more than just the seals that are bad because the vacuum transducer would have to have a leak

Re: Motor Oil in Vaccum line from Carb to Distributor? Need help to stop this

Ive never experianced this issue but common sense would lead me to believe that because vacum is being pulled in the direction of the carb that the oil would have to be comming from the dizzy, if it was comming from the carb then the oil would have to travel against the flow of vacum and toward the dizzy, just a thought

One of the few things I learned in high school is that

Are you running a PCV to help even out the pressure in the engine? I also see a "T" in the line in your pic of the carb. Is the vac line from the carb "T'd" into anything else? You should only run the vac to the distributor and nothing else.
