Parking Brake Question...
I have a '69 1 ton short bed 4X4 that has the parking brake cables on the drums and has the cable from the parking brake pedal but not the cable run connecting the two.
Here's a picture of the rear cables. From some online catalogs it looks like their are some other hardward needed as well. Has anyone gone through this themselves and where's the best place to get the parts and how do I determine exactly the right parts to get? Thanks for any help. Ken

Way off topic, but what is you VIN on that truck?
Just wondering becouse your description sems way off. I looked at your pics, and even though i couldn't see the badges very well on the fenders, it looked like it said C/20. That would make it a 3/4 ton long bed 4X4. They never made any 4X4 on one ton chassis, and if that was a one ton, it would be a Longhorn, which would have the 68 1/2 foot bed. |

long...great observations! the front and rear end are from a '79 and not a '69. The body and chassis are a '69 c/20. so, it's definitely not an original truck...even the motor in it is from '95 and is a TBI SB 350.
There's no CTS in those eyes of yours!

Ok man, just making sure you weren't fed a huge line of BS when you bought it. I think every 3/4 ton I've seen has been adgertised that it had a one ton rear...just becouse it is full floating. |

I had a 79 chevy 4X4 and the parking park intermediate cable is what your looking for and you'll need the connectors from the intermediate cable to each rear wheel cable. There is also two cable guides which are on the drives and passenger side (they look like somebody got creative bending small steel rods) you'll also need the frontcable to intermediate cable equalizer/adjuster. The best way to get all this stuff is from a junkyard. That is what I did before junking the truck due to rust problems. The cables are available from the auto part stores but the other stuff typically is not.

Thanks for the reply. Will the '79 hardware that attaches to the chassis work without modification (keep in mind my frame is a '69)?

I not sure about that. I missed that the frame was a 69. I'm not as sure of the parking brake cable on 67-72 trucks yet because I haven't worked on one. I guess if someone was nice enough to scan the service manual that shows how this cable runs. The LMC book for 60-66 Chevy trucks shows a picture that is similar to what I described but not exactly like the 79 parking brake intermediate cable supports. It shows three supports and not two like the 79 4X4 had. I'd suggest goingto a junkyard and do some measurements. I would recommend getting the supports and the intermediate cable from the 67-72 truck. Then figure what you need to modify.

thanks...that makes a lot of sense. My guess is the '69 hardware is what I'll need...the intermediate cable length could vary if the brake cables from the rear brakes differ in length then those of the '69 rear. If that's the case I may have to fabricate something or modify some things. I'll let you all know what I end up with.
