New exhaust coming for the piece of crappe

Well, I got the old heap running again last weekend. I have a couple bugs to work out with accessory drive belts and maybe a couple other things, but generally it seems pretty good. The exhaust system on the truck now I am contemplating putting in a redneck museum somewhere, if I can find one. It comes off the header collectors into flex pipe, back to a couple mufflers, another 18 inches or so of pipe, and stops before it gets to the rear axle. Of course this is all supported with.... yep, you guessed it, bailing wire! Anyway, got a 2.5" Pypes exhaust with Violator mufflers coming in to take its place. Sniff, gonna miss that old system...

Maybe I could put together some kits and market them.

Alabama has nothing on Arkansas!! (I apologize to all from Alabama)

Seriously though, bailing wire and duct tape, it makes the world go around. "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

i've been seeing alot of people building the "rat rods" complete with rust and painted stencils that look poorly done on purpose, (i really like the rat rods, not hating).

Hillbilly exhaust could be the next trend.

Maumelle Valley, where S. Odom goes from divided down to 2 lane. You don't live on the corner of N. Odom and a street by the soccer fields do you? There is a guy over there that has older Chevy pickups and Blazers.

No, I live close to there on Oak Forest Loop. But I hide my truck in the garage so the neighbors don't lynch me. Can't have an old broke-dick lookin thing like that in my driveway.

Re: New exhaust coming for the piece of crappe

I have 2 weeks off starting Saturday so I will get to it real soon. I'll be able to put up pictures. I've never done a video before, so I dunno about that.

Re: New exhaust coming for the piece of crappe

I finally started putting the Pypes exhaust in. Kinda got held up with a rocker stud backing out and losing a cylinder temporarily. Got the tailpipes welded up, thought I had the muffies set, but I gotta take the tailpipes back out and shorten them as much as I can so the muffies are close as possible to the diff. Then I can put the X above the drive shaft. I have some 30 and 45degree mandrel bends and header buddies coming. I'm gonna have to buy some more 2 1/2" pipe so I can make the pipe between the header and the X one continuous piece. I'm gonna customize the tranny crossmember so both pipes are above the crossmember. Then it should be tucked up nice and sound good. I'll prolly put some chrome tips on em.

Re: New exhaust coming for the piece of crappe

Got the tailpipes trimmed so the muffies are just in front of the diff. Welded up the slip joints in the tail pipes. Trimmed the pipes between the X and the muffies so the X is as far aft as possible and above the drive shaft. Welded all the slip joints at the X pipe. Took all the trimmings and butt welded them back into a straight hunk of pipe to run from way back at the X up to the headers. Then I'll see what I gotta do to get the angle right for the headers and fab up a custom tranny crossmember that allows the pipes to go above it. One side does already. Just gotta fix the passenger side. Then I gotta fix the tranny slip yoke leak. It's leaking from the back of the yoke, not the seal like I'm used to seeing. Guess I'll weld it shut or tap it and put a screw in it to plug it off. Then I gotta check the torque on the rocker studs and put the right valve covers back on. Got the 'convertible top' valve covers on now for valve adjustment. Then I'm gonna get one of them adjustable throttle cable brackets and get that straight. Then I gotta go to the boneyard and pick up a couple core support/radiator mounting bits and a remote hood release setup. Gotta do tie rod ends and idler arm, too. What a mess. Gotta be running one week from today. Sooner would be better.
