4x4 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton axles

My buddy has a truck that is suppsoedly a 3/4 ton, that some one has put 1/2 ton axles under. How can we verify that it is a 3/4 ton frame and springs, and what would we need to do to go back to 3/4 ton axles?

thanks.

One thing that comes to mind is in my experience the 3/4 tons typically had 56" rear springs. The front springs might have had 3 leafs instead of 2. The only thing that I can think of needing to be changed besides the differentials, is the rear driveshaft.....bigger u-joints on the 14 bolt.

Re: 4x4 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton axles

The thickness of the metal on the frame rails is different between 1/2 and 3/4 tons. Can't remember the numbers off the top of my head but there were some threads about it not long ago so a quick search for frame thickness might show them.

If you can't find it I will mic the two I have and give you the numbers when I get home.
