Cleared factory GM SideMarker Light

So I decided to spend the extra dollar at the pick-n-pull for a side marker light. I was going to take it apart and refurbish it... and then I noticed some of the yellow coloring was flaking off. A quick trip to the sand blast cabinet at my dads work (super super fine blast media) I sand blasted the back side (inside) of the lense... its not clear, but its not yellow, more like a frosted white. Perfect. I painted some areas black so it would look even better, and the result looks awsome, so now I need to find a passenger side lense.
I am not sure if the new aftermarket are the same way, but this one happened to be an original GM lense. I didnt even have to try hard to seperate the lense from the base as it was already coming apart.
Pictures will be up later on tonight.

Re: Cleared factory GM SideMarker Light

Well what made me think it could be done was thefact the yellow in the lense was peeling from the inside..

You think it would make the lens hazy looking?

Re: Cleared factory GM SideMarker Light

Not sure... I was using what I had on hand before I remembered I had access to a sand blaster. I was using throttle body cleaner (there was dark dirt or something in the inside of the lense)... brake clean, small wire brush (like used for golf shoes, but it was stainless steel). Then I went and sandblasted the inside - I held it about a 1 1/2 foot away from the gun becuase I didnt know if it would break the lense... It made the inside dull, which works out great becuase the light seems to be disbursed more evently... theres still the hotspot where the center of the bulb is... maybe I will dab a little black on the tip of the bulb. On the outside of the lense if it did dull it, you could get a dremel tool polisher and polish it right up. I might do that... on the face of the lense where its textured. I had some white crusty stuff in the crevis' and I used some scotch brite pads to remove it, left it a bit dull... as it is now, it looks good... if it were polished... probally look better.

yea, paint thinner will just kind of "burn" the plastic, it will just get hazy, and its not easy to get rid of. lookis good though! wish i had access to a sand blaster!
