I think I screwed up

I got a set of Dashtop door panels. The original color was black but were painted blue before I got them. I tried to paint one black but it came out really crappy. Part of the paint looks like velvet and has a grainy texture to it. It was really hot outside and there was high humidity. Do you guys think it would hurt the plastic to use a paint remover or diluted thinner to clean both layers of paint off so they will be black again?

I already asked this in paint and body but after 151 views there have been no answers so I thought I would ask over here. How do you remove paint from plastic parts? Would paint remover/thinner be too strong and damage the plastic? I'm trying to get paint off door panels.

I used "purple power" on dash cluster and 72 door panels. It worked great.

Is it just regular spray paint or is it another type of paint? If its spay paint, as mention before you can try Purple Power or product called Goof Off. The Goof Off comes in different strenghts. Some paint thinner on a rag will work and I think there is some paint stripper @ Home depo that is safe on some plastics...

When I used to build plastic model cars and needed to remove the paint, if the paint had a reaction and wrinkled or if I bought a rare model that had a nasty paint job, I always filled a tupperware container with brake fluid soaked the plastic model car for a few days. Most of the paint floated off but some scrubbing with a old toothbrush removed the rest. If it was needed soak it again. My nephew's Saturn had all of the small interior trim pieces around the dash and the heater vents painted and it looked bad and the brake fluid trick work on them just fine, but always check the plastic I'd hate to ruin something.

Thanks for moving my original post. I had not even thought about brake fluid. I got a real good deal on these panels and don't want to ruin them. Is the purple power a household cleaner? I think I remember something by that name but haven't seen it in a while.

i second the brake fluid. ive removed paint from polycarbonate rc car bodies with it. didnt harm the plastic at all.

Hey guys the brake fluid is working wonders! I decided to use it because I had it on hand. I didn't have any of the purple power stuff and I was anxious to get started on it. Thank you sooooo much for the advice!!!
