Distributor Question, need advice
I'm going to change my distributor in my 69 C/10 and I need some advice. First off, the engine is a sb-350, automatic. has a mild high end cam installed, 600 holley carb. The truck has a newer motor in it. Which distributor would be the best for the engine? a 50,000 volt or a 65.000 volt distributor

Are you talking about an HEI with the coil included? because its the coil that determines the voltage output not the dizzy.

The answer is yes. Doubtfull your going to tell the difference between the two. If you want to spend money or brag you that you have 65,000 volt coil go that route. If not spend the extra bucks for a fuel line filter or aircleaner filter which you will more likely see some difference in performance or mileage improvement.

What Sammy said... you're talking about a pretty mild engine.
fwiw, my 350 was rebuilt nearly stock, with an RV cam & Q-jet on an Edelbrock 2101. It has a used GM HEI (no idea what it came from) and it's never let me down.

i just put a tsp 65000v on my 355, very tight fit but works well.

I went to O'Reilly's and got an ACCEL HEI that is essentially a reman unit. It was less than $20 more than a standard reman that O'Reilly sold, which had the same part number as the one from AutoZone and Advance. All were Cardone units. I anted-up for a higher-output coil from ACCEL.

If you want your distributor to perform at its top peak I use bob jennings dyno shop. He is located at North Hills Ca. His ph is 818-894-3811. He has been setting up dist for 40 years, also quick turn around.He does stock motors and drag motors.
