boytoytrading,

You have just the gears, or the whole carrier with 3.73 for our trucks?

I know that the carriers are different, and if I remember, the ring and pinion is also different, and nothing is interchangeable. The carriers are different in the spline count for the axles, and I think that the pinion gear on the car is smaller so the bearings are wrong for the truck. You need to verify the differences, but I do know for sure that they are different.

71MoneyPit,

I think that the carrier is the same for 5 or 6 bolt. I know that I can change out my 70 axles for 72 axles and have a 5 bolt pattern on the rear of my truck. I think that the problem is finding the 12 bolt truck carriers used. I know that you can buy them new. I think that lazyguard had one for sale recently. I got mine from him awhile back.

Purs .. I have a set of NOS GM 3.73 gears for a TRUCK 12 bolt ... I think the passenger car 12 bolt & truck 12 bolt are different.

Let me know if you are interested in the gears ...

Shane, thanks but I'm looking for a set of gears (actually a whole 12 bolt rear) for my 68 chevelle. I've got 3.73's in my 72 truck and really like them.

Can I buy a 12 bolt carrier posi and swap it into a 12 bolt non-posi rear (68)?
Thanks.

Boytoytrading - if this works, let me know what you want for either a 3:73 or 3:42 posi carrier unit. Thanks.

ScottH,

I bought a posi carrier for my non posi rearend. I took it to the local driveline guy and he performed the swap for me. Mine was a 70, but I think they are the same.
