Quick Question: Going back to springs from airbags
I bought this '72 with air bags and rear bolt in C notches. The airbag system was installed poorly (speaker wires/zip ties) and the rear bags leak (can't find it). Anyway, I want to go back to a spring suspension. I am curious, in the rear, if the springs will just pop back in, or if the spring seats are now missing. If anyone who has installed rear bags, or these bolt in C notches can tell me what to expect, that would be great. Just want to order everything I need at one time, and I have no experience here.
*I know this pic shows the airbags inflated, but that only lasts about 5-10 mins. Also, I have no interest in repairing the bag system, my brother in law is getting them. Thanks! |

Yes thats what you need. Dont forget the hardware. That ad doesnt specify if hardware is included or not.

Why not just fix what you have. Nothing worse than a cobbled up air suspension. Nothing better than one installed correctly.

Re: Quick Question: Going back to springs from airbags
Honestly.. I did like the airbag idea.. but I have had no personal experience with them except this one dropping on me at 70mph, the bed slammed down, cutting the LR tire in half, and fish tailing off into the median, then a $500 tow home.. and a buddy who has them, they formed a leak, and his car was down for a week while trying to figure it out.. I understand that it is a common upgrade, and many do not have issues.. but right now, I am just turned off by them.

Wasn't a fun time, or a good way to introduce myself to this truck.. this all happened within an hour of buying it. Last edited by Street Lethal '72; 09-12-2010 at 11:35 AM. |
