Air filter for 62 carb?

Heya all, I have a 62 c10 I've been working on and it has a single barrel rochester carb. I got the truck from my great grandfather after he passed away and he's done a few things that I can't figure out.

He cut off the oil filter and sealed it off, has the exhaust held up with extension cords and there's no air filter on the carb. I actually found about 8-10 walnuts buried down in the carb and the intake manifold due to no filter over the carb.

it hasn't run in 5 years or so and I've finally got it running on its own. I've looked at various filter systems but it doesn't have the single hole in the middle for the long rod to come up through the bolt on the filter. It does have 2 small holes on the top ring around the edges of the carb, but I can't see any threads in there, like where you'd screw something in.

Ideas on what to get, where or what to fabricate?

Re: Air filter for 62 carb?

Here's a pic, hope I'm linking it right. This is the top view of it. No hole in center for a rod and only 2 small holes on the top that don't appear to be for screwing something down. I've seen pics where some have the huge black air filter case and others where the have the small crome top with the visible air filter.

Re: Air filter for 62 carb?

Ahhh, so that's what those 2 small holes are for. Does the flap inside still have room to rotate with it screwed in? I'm sure it does, probably a stupid question.

Guess I need to hit up a junkyard to get that single piece.

The parts guy at an auto parts store was trying to tell me to just drill some holes in the side and mount up my own air filter. Don't think I'll be trying that.

Thank for the pic, helps a lot!

Re: Air filter for 62 carb?

I have an old carb from my old 62 at my Dad's shop. I'll check and see if that has the part on it.
