Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

its hard to get a good shot of them but they look perfect in there! i'll keep working on them and hopefully things keep going like they have been. for anyone interested im using a plastic black bezel piece found in the '81 up trucks to mount the gauges. the 80's down are metal. i have found the plastic ones are more forgiving so you can get them perfect pretty easily.

still need to loom up the tail light section and run the headlight harness as soon as i get my fenders back from paint. the painless kit has actually been kinda fun. just no sense of accomplishment or anything to show off because its all hidden.

Btw don't you think the speedo should go on the left and the tach on the right?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

yes! that was just a test fit... i figured it would be better to pry and handle the $180 tach rather than the $300 speedo

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

So with the gauges mounted in the black housing, will the bezel sit tight to the lens on the gauge...and untimately bolt back in the dash and sit correctly without any kind of modifications?

BTW, boxed up the speaker brackets and fuse box...just waiting on you.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

yes... so far. i only had to file down those plastic brace type things around the holes on the big ones. and again, so far!! i'll know for sure probably by tomorrow night after work. just takes a little bit of time enlarging the holes.

and it seems like the trim ring on the small ones don't sit flat against the face of the gauge. its right on the lip of it. the larger 5" ones the ring fits right along the round part so the face is flush.

Not so sure I would post info like that around these types.... You never know when one of them will quote you & then you can't delete the evidence after you think it over & realize your mistake of sharing a little more than necessary

scoti, you have a good point! i have been looking for a new quote in my sig too!

well guys, i have got some bad news. been working on these gauges everyday after work and its not working out. the trim ring on the gauges is pushing the bezel out so it doesn't sit flush with the dash. i'm getting rather irritated with it at the moment. i'm going to try and make a bezel piece out of sheet metal to hold them. i have a feeling i'm going to end up taking them apart and gluing them to the bezel and have jeff make some little brackets to help hold them. idk....

Check the listing for the brake hoses for a '78 Cadillac Fleetwood or Eldorado. Those should work.

Dennis, if you would have just listened to me, your gauges would be in the truck by now.

Sorry it didn't work out. Send me some dimensions (and pics of the backside of the gauges) and I'll get some brackets for you. I have actually been waiting on you before I put in my next order, so I can get everything at once.
