Removing chrome finish from plastic parts.
There was a question posted in a recent build thread. I can't the thread now, but the question was how to remove the chrome finish that is applied to plastic parts.
My experience has been with scale plastic models and I use Liquid Plumber. It takes soaking for 24 hours or so and leaves the electro palted finish on the plastic part. The electro plated finish is a very smooth gloss finish. If you wanted to paint you would need to scuff this up with a fine sand paper first. Any other suggestions? |

Re: Removing chrome finish from plastic parts.
I've noticed that the Purple Power degreaser from Autozone for example removes the silver coating from plastic parts. It also slowly removes skin so keep the hands out of it...

Purple Power degreaser is cheapest at Wallyworld Anytime I paint plastic I use adhesive polymer. Cuts down on the sanding marks.

Re: Removing chrome finish from plastic parts.
try some windex...I accidentally got some on a pair of chrome plated plastic headlights, and it took it off in seconds...obviously, windex w/ ammonia.

Re: Removing chrome finish from plastic parts.
Wallyworld purple power was like $4 for a 1/2 gallon, concentrated. But oven cleaner will work, just be careful. It's very powerful.
