Introduction and pics -- 72 LWB 454 LS6
I signed up here a week or so ago and have already found tons of great information, this is definitely one of the best vehicle specific forums I've ever used. Anyway, I just wanted to drop a quick hello and toss up some pictures of my truck which stands pretty much as I bought it a few weeks ago. It's a 72 LWB with 99K on the truck. Minimal rust on the rain gutters and no body rust, which was one of the main reasons I decided on this one. It was advertised by the previous owner as having a "454 L88 Corvette crate motor," but the L88 is a 427, so they didn't know exactly what they had in it I suppose. I think the confusion came from the engine ID, which happens to be "CRV," which happens to mean...454 LS6 from a 70 Chevelle. The engine is strong and this thing is downright fast! It's been a blast to drive so far. Somewhere along the way they put in a sunroof (I included a picture of the rediculous headliner that was in it just for kicks...yes, that came out immediately!) So far all I've done is fluid changes and plugs and wires, as well as leaning out the mixture on the quadrajet just a bit. Interior is good with original door panels and an uncut dash. It has a later model steering column and everything has been pretty well maintained. I have shocks on backorder from Brothers right now and 2/4 springs ready to go in when I get them. After that, tires, wheels and paint and all the "major" work will be done for the time being. Seems like projects are never truly finished, so after that it will be bits and pieces here and there, such as power locks and windows, stereo, etc.
So, here are some pictures of the trucks. Again, glad to be here and am looking forward to the project!

Welcome to the club! Good looking truck with AC as well. I agree that this site has some really good information available, some of the best I have seen on this era of trucks.
Good luck on your project! Al '69 GMC 2500 Longhorn |

Re: Introduction and pics -- 72 LWB
I just noticed your grill is different... I thought all 67-72 had the same grill (like the one on my truck (avatar)) Is that not true?

Re: Introduction and pics -- 72 LWB
well nevermind I just did some research. Apparently the inner grill bar went away in the 71-72s, and the bowtie moved to the grill isntead of the hood like on the 67-70s.

That headliner is pretty special. I'm pretty sure that came with all LS6's.

Re: Introduction and pics -- 72 LWB
Nice !!! Did that truck come from Abilene? I think I looked at it before. If that is a true 1970 LS6, I would look into what the engine is worth. I might be worth some dough to a Chevelle enthusiast. Then you could put in a 402 or another 454 and still have some left over to do some work on the truck.

As far as the headliner, I'm just pissed it didn't come with the matching welded chain steering wheel!!

Re: Introduction and pics -- 72 LWB
The color combo might be changed a bit when I paint. I was thinking of keeping the blue color (especially since the interior paint is in such great shape), but painting the top of the cab blue and replacing the white center section with black. I played around with it in Photoshop a little bit and I think that looks pretty sharp, and it kinda "the same but different."
