Some weird issues on a 02 Duramax

Hey guys. We have a 02 2500HD Duramax at our store. This has been an issue for a while, and I'm not the one that drives it everyday so it doesn't really bother me. However the last few weeks I have driven it more, and it really bugs me now. The emergency brake light, and the ABS light will come on and stay on for a long period of time. I haven't found anything that would trigger them to come on. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was a sensor that is bad, or going bad. It doesn't seem to have any affect on the truck just the lights stay on.

Also the tow/haul button on the shifter doesn't seem to work anymore. It was working fine, and now nothing. I haven't tore the steering column cover apart to see if maybe a wire has broke or come loose, just thought I would see if anyone else has had a similar problem, and narrow down my search.

Thanks.

Need codes from the EBCM (ABS) before I chould help on the brake/ABS lights.

The wire/s going the Tow/Haul switch are most likely broken inside the shifter handle. Replace the shifter handle.

OK thanks. I'll run it by the auto parts place, or the shop across the street and see if they can pull the codes for me.

Re: Some weird issues on a 02 Duramax

Some of these trucks have a problem with the ground to the brake computer. The ground cable is on the bottom of the cab, right by where your left foot would sit when driving. Crawl under and take the nut off, clean up the cable end and contact points and reinstall.

I had this problem on my 04 and it seems to be common and will throw the Brake light in the dash on.

Re: Some weird issues on a 02 Duramax

I had the same problem with my Tow/Haul. Pretty common issue. The wires eventually break from all of the up down action of the shifter. There is just enough wire length to take it apart and reconnect them. Just make sure to unhook the battery so you don't accidentally take an airbag to the face

Thanks for the advice. That wouldn't be a good thing.

The abs light could be a speed sensor, either on the front wheels or in the tail of the trans. Also check out www.dieselplace.com for all of your Duramax questions.
