Vin Decode Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

This truck is being advertised as "1972 GMC 1 ton Camper Special".
Can someone decode this truck if you can see the Vin Number in the picture?

2 - 3/4 ton
4 - cab and bed
2 - 1972
s - st louis build plant
134246 - 34246th off the first assembly line at that plant for that model year

It's not a one ton, it's not a GMC, and a camper special is a ford. It says custom camper on the spid there.

I just got a 1968 gmc 3/4 ton truck with the vin #CM20DPB46996. I can't decode it. can someone help me? Is the vin normally in the drivers door jam on these trucks? I have been told by the guy I bought it from it was a 351 v6. It is not bad on the rust and is a straight truck. It is a factory ac and power steering and power brakes truck. What tranny did they put in those ? And how do I find out what the gear ratio is?

You'll find that the members on here are very helpful (not me) about deciphering and assisting with anything you need.
Oh ya, pictures are very helpful also.....so I'll recommend taking a few shots of the SPID (sticker on inside glovebox door) and the plate on the door jam pillar. And heck, lets see your truck. Lets see pics of it! Oh, one more thing, I don't think you're hijacking this post so remember the rules and stay on topic. It keeps everyone happy. Again welcome!

Sorry im new on here. I will keep onsubject. I have to get the truck home Im getting a carb today for it so I can drive it home and I will get pics of it on here.

Ring, welcome to the site. Sounds like you got a nice truck there. Here is a good site to decode vin's http://outintheshop.com/vin_decode.html
Make sure you use the decoder for a 68 GMC.

You should get
CM20DPB46996
C= 2wd conventional
M= V6 (In 68 the V6 was a 351)
20= 3/4 Ton
D= Wideside
P= Assy. plant Pontiac
B= 1968
46996= Serial number

Sorry I don't know much about the GMC'S as far as what came standard. But if you have a optional tranny or rear end it will be on the SPID as a option, with a RPO code.

Thank you for the information. It did help a lot, But I could not find the assembly plant code P on there. it did help me though. thanks again!
It will be a good truck once I get it running.
