Solenoid wiring question

I am cleaning up some wiring in the engine compartment. The purple wire that runs from from the fuseblock/firewall to the solenoid is currently routed through the firewall gutter- to top of motor right side along intake manifold/valve cover down front of motor to solenoid. Is this how this wire was run from the factory? Did it come with fabric insulation? The insulation is cracked from heat and I need to replace this wire.

Re: Solenoid wiring question

That is the routing for the purple wire to the starter solenoid. The wire was originally covered with plastic and not fabric. The original wire is 12 gage and if you are replacing it you may want to increase the size to 10 gage.

Re: Solenoid wiring question

I ran mine down the backside of the cylinder head to the starter a lot closer less heat and resistance
