What is this and does it need be wired up?
Is it a fuel pump or filter? Its next the gas tank.. It has a single black wire runnin to the fire wall but it is not connected to anything.... This on my 1970 Suburban.... Plz let me kno... thanks.

It appears to be a very old electric fuel pump. The wire not being hooked up to anything obviously shows it is not being used so, if it were on mine, I would remove it from the system to prevent it from causing any flow restriction problems.

Maybe its a old filter with a water in fuel light , it would ground that wire if it had water .

Looks just like the electric fuel pump that was on my burb for years, and it was located on the drivers side of the frame near the front door.
Took it off, since I felt it was no longer needed. Back in the day, my Dad put it on because we had fuel problems in the heat of the summer in the high altitudes of the Sierra Nevada.

Thanks Guys..... It is located on the frame near the gas tank at the rear of the suburban...

That is definately an old electric fuel pump. I had two suburbans with pumps exactly like that. Since you are obviously recieving your fuel in a different way I would take it off.
