Power Glide Transmission
I have a 1968 Chevy C10 with a powerglide transmission in it. Ever since i hace had the truck it has leaked fluid. But recently you can fill the transmission and within a week all the fluid has leaked out. I know its not leaking around the pan because i put a new gasket on. I was wondering if anyone has had a problem like this before. Also if anyone knows how much it should cost me to take it some were and have them pull it out and replace all the gaskets.

If you are not seeing large puddles underneath yet your tranny fluid is going down, check the vacuum modulator valve on the side of the transmission. It has a vacuum hose that will run up to the intake or carb. Take the hose off of the valve on the transmission. If it has transmission fluid in it, the diaphragm is shot and the vacuum is pulling trans fluid out of the transmission and you are burning it.

rsavage, Yes there is transmission fluid under the vehicle. Lots of it too.

shifter shaft seal could be the culprit. I seen it lots of times along with the dipstick tube grommit. I would check those two places first ,or second after the pan itself but you said it was'nt leaking. I gonna stop now casuse I have strated to ramble. Jim

If your lucky it could be the rear seal (where the drive shaft goes in), real easy and cheap fix. If its the front pump seal.... you have to pull out the transmission replace the front seal and put it all back in, much bigger job....

good suggestions here. im a powerglide fan and the dipstick tube would be my first thing to check. good luck and keep that glide rolling
