I would recommend tapping the dash lights or the parking lights instead of the headlights. Using the head light wire, you can still leave the park light on and kill the battery.
I just hooked mine up last week. Great little product.

I looked at that and decided to go with just the head lights circuit. Because the buzzer would be activated with the emergency flashers and the engine off. There always seams to be a tradeoff some where regardless of how you hook it up. Thanks for looking over my hook up and noting its shortcomings. Sometimes that’s just the way things are.

Not with the dash lights. The power is fed from the light switch separately and on its own 5 amp fuse.

Another thing checked off the list of things to do
A day to prep, a day to spray, and a day to dry I had a gallon of Herculiner bed liner that I’m using as undercoating on the cab and front fender wells. I used the whole gallon on the area, possibly a little heavy for two coats but definitely wanted it to cover (smile). This stuff is thick with plenty of rubber granules in it and decided to spray it instead of using a roller or brush, the only spray gun that I think would spray it is a Schultz type gun. The Hurculiner should work well for undercoating protection and some sound deadening but I don’t think I would use it as a bed liner, it doesn’t have UV protection and would require an additional UV topping for protection. Not a problem for under the truck (smile). Some of the problems you might run into using a Schultz type gun. The gun is some times known as a undercoating gun or spatter gun, it doesn’t have a precise spray pattern it just kind of throws the paint out of the tip. There are different manufactures out there for this type of gun make sure you get the paint containers for the one you’re using. For example the one I used will not fit on the Raptor bed liner bottles, there seems to be no standard bottle size that all the guns use. With the less than precise spray pattern you need to tape off all the areas you don’t want the paint, I wrapped the cab in that thin painters plastic and found specks of undercoating 6 foot away on it. I used some cheap throw away painter’s coveralls to protect my clothes and they worked and painters gloves but still got a little bit on my hands. A badge of accomplishment that will take months to go away (smile). Enjoy your build

From plan (A) to plan (B) to plan (C) then back to plan (B)
Definitely good to remain flexible to move the body and paint forward My original plan (A) was to do all the body and paint on the small transport trailer then bring the body home and install it on the frame. After talking to the shop owner about the possible problems with how each different body sits differently on each frame and how it was a lot easer to deal with it if the body was on the frame before final exterior painting, decided to move on to another plan. On to plan (B), do all the primary body work and internal painting like the inside of the cab, underside of the hood, inside of the fenders, and inside of the doors. Then transport them back to my shop to put them together on the frame. Then transport the body and frame back to the body and paint shop and do any final body work and exterior painting. The shop owner then suggested plan (C) to minimize transportation logistics and time, offered to just transport the frame down to his shop and I would go down there and assemble the body on the frame there. Plan (C) was a well appreciated offer but things can change. Let me start off with that the body and paint shop has been outstanding in letting me in there to do some of the work myself. It’s a busy place with all the work going on a number of different cars & trucks and giving up stall space to me could be costing them money. The weather has changed around hear with winter coming in they expect an increase in business and requested to go back to plan (B). I’m happy with their work and quality up to this point and working my project into their shop and not always being on the back burner and well get to it when we can. We all want our project done quickly and that is probably expecting too much but they have been moving my project along nicely. So back to plan (B), this will probably add a few weeks to the body and paint with the weather and transportation windows but nothing in cost. Will be working on getting the cab and hood back to my shop after this holiday, all the small parts that can fit into my small car I’ve been transporting myself. Hear are some pictures showing the cut in / internal painting accomplished. The inside of the cab may look like a different color but it’s the same color (GM 505 green) as seen in the other pictures, it’s just the flash on the camera giving it a color change. This is one sealer coat, three color coats and two clear coats all in a water base paint. The step side bed will be remaining in the body and paint shop and be getting the finish paint that has to be done with the bed apart anyway and I will put it together on the frame after the truck is back in my shop. The holiday season is upon us and it’s always a time for me to look back over the year and give thanks. Thanks to all that have come by this build and given their comments & suggestions and to this forum (administrators, staff and moderators) giving me a place to share my build. I’ve seen over the years that many a build has withered on the vine for all the lacking of sharing and interest from others that is not known by the builder working isolated from it in his shop. The panels are coming together for exterior painting
The cab and fenders mounted on the frame ready to go back to the body and paint shop One of the common questions on the general forum is how to stack the body mounts. Hears a picture of the parts and how they go together also included is some of the dimensions of the parts. All the panels back on the frame. I did use an extra washer on the radiator support for panel alignment. Note the core cowl panel is installed just to check fit and fair and will be painted off the body. I did install a Hoodliner insulation kit. A lot easer to fit and install prior to installing the hood. I used two Dynamat, part number 11905, Engine Compartment Insulation kits. One kit was not big enough to cover the complete area, will be using the leftover insulation under the cab headliner when it’s installed later. Now just waiting for a weather break, if Mother Nature will cooperate, (smile) to get it back to the body and paint shop. It’s starting to look more like a truck again instead of a bunch of parts.
