Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I was thinking of getting rid of my 09 Dodge Ram to save on the monthly bills ($460 a month). I would consider using my 64 panel truck as my daily driver but I would be worried about it getting broken into or stolen, expecially in certain areas.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I use the 64 as my DD when I don't have my daughter. I still have yet to install seat belts. I also have a 97 dodge ram that is the people carrier and towing truck.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I use the '63 for all my driving after work (have a service truck) and for towing the boat, hauling lumber, dump runs ect. I got rid of a "turned up" '95 F350 4x4 to get this truck and have not regretted it at all.

I drove mine back and forth from Dixon to Richmond for nearly 3 years and it was my daily driver until about 10 years ago.

My 62 panel is my daily. Panels are tricky as dailys but you get used to that GIANT blindspot quick.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I have a 2004 Silverado that spends 80% of it's life parked on top of the hill. My DD's alternate between my '73 and my '62...

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I bought my '63 as a daily driver after my 2001 Dodge went into the shop for the 5th time for computer problems. I drive it every day, except when the salt is heavy on the road.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
my 65 was my daily for the last 3 years, threw a timing chain, and the motor was pretty weak anyway, so not wor it to fix that engine.
so now I am triving a square for the winter. I will have to figure out something for the motor in the 65 in the spring.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I drive mine everyday since the LSx engine install ( I also dd it before I got the rice burner), It just kinda fits me, I have had the truck 21 years so It is a part of me and I of it. I also have the rice burner for longer trips that I need the fuel mileage to be better than 20+.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I drove my 62 from 1992 till 2001 everyday, put over 150 miles per day when commuting, was all stock including drum brakes all around till 1998, 283/ 3speed/2 barrel used to get 17 miles per gallon before the new gas came out, I drove this truck everywhere..got stuck in a huge flash flood in Yosimite in the late 90s...snow in tahoe, I drove this truck morethan any car I have ever owned, have not seen the road for 2 years since the repairs started...but soon !!

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
Ya the 64 has been my only vehicle for about a year now, so definitely considered my daily driver. Still has a 230 in it, with 4speed on the floor and 1bbl rochester.
Added HEI and will have power steering soon! Hasn't left me stranded yet *knock on wood* But the rochester is starting to bog out after idle so thinking of going to a 2bbl holley-weber from Landon's. Love the truck though. |

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
Been driving mine pretty much every day since I bought it in 1995. My round-trip from home to work and back is 36 miles. The only times I don't drive it to work really are when it's down for maintenance, if it's a really nice day I might drive my 69 Chevelle, or when the temperatures get over 90 degrees I drive my Ford Explorer Sport Trac for the A/C.

Mine is a semi-daily driver. With my driveway, it's whichever vehicle doesn't have something behind it.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
Our 1960 GMC has been my daily driver for most of the last 15 years. Nine of those years the daily commute was 72 miles (round trip) from Idaho to Washington (including during the winter). When it had a Gaylord bed cover it also served for vacations and travel. The miles are way down now that I’m retired, but the GMC remains my primary driver except in the dead of winter. I’m not as adventurous as I used to be, and prefer driving my wife’s Honda during sub-freezing weather. Also the GMC doesn’t handle ice and snow as well as it did with a bed cover and sand bags in the back.
Prior to the GMC a 46 Ford sedan commuted 110 miles daily (round trip). It was our family car and carried us over 300,000 miles in 8 years. Before that was a 54 Chevy sedan. Most of my adult life I’ve driven old cars and trucks. A friend of mine was so impressed with how far I drove a 40 year old car he sold his new Toyota payments and bought a 54 Chevy truck for his go to work needs. I always preferred vintage cars and trucks and found the easiest way to justify owning one was to use it all the time, avoiding new car payments. Old vehicles can be a lot of fun if they’re built to be reliable. |

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
That's a cherry looking truck, and I love the stance. That was the preferred look back in the 60's.

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I started driving mine as a daily driver 2 weeks ago. My clutch went out on my Mazda6 and it is going to cost me $1500.00 I do not have right now. So i figured put $250 into the truck over the next couple of months and drive it everyday. It is working out so far. Little loud until I install sound deadener, and carpet. I have cherry bombs I can only drive about 50 mph, the rearend needs to be rebuilt so I drive the surface streets. Sucks because in my car takes me 30 minutes to get to work but in my truck it takes about an hour. Other than that it's great!
The picture is the truck in my work parking lot. |

Re: Who uses their 60-66 as a daily driver
I've driven many of my previous 60-66 chevy trucks daily when I owned them. At least until the snow and salt starts.
I love havin a cool old truck to drive everyday. It just makes you feel good. Except the 61 panel I had. I bought and sold it in 4 weeks because I didn't like the monster blind spot. I sold the 63 suburban I had a couple months ago and been working on a couple bobbers for spring. But plan to find another short fleet at tax time for daily use and to haul the bikes.
