Front End Rebuild - parts help
I've decided to do a front end rebuild on my 72 C20.
I have ordered: Control arm shaft kits upper and lower (4) tie rods inner and outer (4) tie rod end adjusting sleeves (2) ball joints upper and lower (4) pitman arm (1) idler arm (1) I bought moog parts because I am trying to do this right. What else do I need for this? What about bushings? What about the center link and sway bar? What about springs? I know I will do shocks. What do you guys think of a subtle drop on a 3/4 truck. Can I wait on the springs and shocks until I decide the direction I want to go aesthetically? I am also having a shop due the work. They are charging $250 for the work and an alignment. Seem reasonable to you guys? Thanks for your help. Last edited by 1stimer; 11-04-2010 at 11:50 PM. |

Re: Front End Rebuild - parts help
what bushings are you talking about? I would replace the sway bar bushing and mounts, the center link "should" be ok. I would decide on the drop prior to doing the front end work, especially if your not doing the work yourself as your going to have to pay twice for the same work. depending on the amount of drop you might have to use different shocks also. $250 sounds real reasonable to me, its a lot of work.

Re: Front End Rebuild - parts help
Did everything on your list, I also replaced the bushings & shafts they are important and worth doing when you have it all apart and are replacing all the other stuff, sway bar and centre link on mine were in good shape, not bent or twisted so I did not see the point, my truck had 2" drop coils so I replaced those as well, but in your case if you have a larger plan for an overall drop on your Truck and aren't sure at this stage how low, then I would say wait. Getting the front end rebuilt was the best thing i've done the improvement in handling and response was vast, and $250 seems very reasonable.

Re: Front End Rebuild - parts help
i'd make up your mind about the drop and do it while the suspension is apart and only pay that labor once and not pay a second time for an alignment
