anyone know the difference.....
between a manual steering tie rod adjuster sleeve and a power steering tie rod adjuster sleeve?i'm collecting all my parts needed to replace my tie rod ends, ball joints, idler arm, roller bearings....etc.and this is the only thing that's got me baffled.the parts catalogs (brothers,lmc,paddock...etc.) have a seperate part #for the 67-68 years in our trucks if equipped w/ power steering or if equipped w/ manual steering.whats the difference? all it does is join the inner tie rod end w/ the outter tie rod end.....can't seem to make heads or tails w/ this. there is a big difference in price,though......almost $10 bucks more for a p/s application.hey when you got c/s payments you learn to do this stuff on a budget y'know? any idears?

I didnt know their was a difference. Go to your local Advance auto. Ask for both. Inspect them. Thats what i would do.

In 67 and some 68's the PS was not in the gearbox but was psiton assisted to the drag link. That may be where the difference is. If you are converting to the "convential" system, then the manual steering adjusting sleeve for the tie rods will work, or anything listed for 69 or 70 will work too.

I don't know why the direct link did not work...Go to this page, then select Electronic Catalog:

good idea fine, thats what i'll do this afternoon b-4 i go to work.cpne you might be on to something w/ that line of thought....although i'm not converting anything over to p/s this is factory p/s setup.hugger thanks for the info!but i don't need part #'s i need specific appliction info.i just can't see any sense to buy a part for $17 bucks vs. a part for $6-7 bucks to do the same dam^ thing!i'll just head to advance auto and ask to see each part #and look for the differences.hugger, your site in the link would've worked to do this but had no pictures of the parts in question!thanks anyhow for the trouble!

Most people tend to think the piston style was a 67-only thing, but I had a 68 GMC with that style steering on it. If your 68 has a convential PS box and pitman arm, then the part for 69-70 should work. Ask them if the cheaper part is also listed as replacement for 69-70 trucks with PS. If it is, it should work for you.

well, found the answer to the tie rod adj. sleeve question.....p/s adj.sleeves are 6.500" long where the manual steering sleeves are 6.000" long.....i think this goes back to the reply by cpne in that this would be for a integral(or power assist) p/s unit.i ended up getting the 69-70 style p/s tie rod adj. sleeves. 'nother little tidbit of info. to store in the memory bank!
