detent bracket?
Hello, I've just removed a 4.1 straight six engine with integral head and replaced it with a 1978 4.1 with non-integral head. However, I can't find a detent/kick-down cable bracket for it (have a TH 350 tranny). Does anyone have any experience with setting up a cable/bracket system for the 4.1 engine? Any and all help greatly appreciated! Thanks, John

Re: detent bracket?
im not positive but jegs or edelbrock make aftermarket parts that will prolly work with some minor modification...

Hello Rusty C10; thanks for your suggestions on the detent bracket, I will give it a try. In your reply you mentioned that you hated cancer, so do I !
If someone in your family has it my prayers will be with them! Balloonbuster |

Re: detent bracket?
Yes, you can find them aftermarket in several places. You MIGHT be able to find one in the "Help" section at one of the parts stores.

Do you have any pictures? Also, I don't think the aftermarket is going to be much help in this situation.

Re: detent bracket?
Thanks S10Fan for your reply, my error, I left out the fact in my original post that I replaced the intergral head engine with a non-integral one (a 1978 4.1 engine), but didn't have the detent bracket for it. I still have the bracket from the integral head engine I will see if it would work, but with the separate intake putting the carb in a different position it might not work. I have heard many say that one may have to be fabricated, but wasn't there a factory bracket that was used for the non-integral head 4.1's? Thanks, balloonbuster

Re: detent bracket?
GM made lots of L6 non-integrals with TH350's on them. Jyard, any car (novas and clones, full size) or half ton pickup will do.
Alas, All mine are manual trans.
