Re: Need more leg room . please help
Robert I notice also that your peddles sit even and close to the floor . This must help with driving comfort as well ?? Thanks again for the efforts .

Re: Need more leg room . please help
Big Irish,
Here is what i did. I got a Glide Engineering frame for the 47-54 truck. I had the upholsterer use less padding in the backrest portion of the seat. This seat drops right in to your present bracket. All you do is remove the current tracks and put this frame in. It has its own track and the bottom lifts out so you can put items under the seat like an amp or fuse box or whatever. There is plenty of room. I have my remote fill for my master cylinder and my fuse box under the seat. I am 6'4" also and this works great. I also took the gas tank out. Here is a picture of what it looks like finished. |

Re: Need more leg room . please help
Another solution is what I did to my 53, I used the stock seat and frame, But I removed all the springs and wire from the seat back, then cut a piece of plywood to fit the verticle bracing of the seat back.
It was then covered with foam and frabic,............. and I left the tank in behind the seat, it has a lot more room and still has adjustment on the seat!

Re: Need more leg room . please help
removing the gas tank doesn't give more room in the cab, the seat goes to the back of the cab regardless.
as does your head a thin seat back and raising the seat above stock is about all you can do, short of extending the cab. i also cut 3.5 inches off the brake pedal to give less leg action to hit the pedal. raising the seat and tilting the bottom gives you more leg support for long trips. i used 07 ford fusion seats; chopped 6 inches and raised 1.5 inches above stock if i lean back hard i will smack my head on the metal above the big back window i have a hard foam headrest above the window that is upholstered to match my seats

Re: Need more leg room . please help
Sweet swaps! I didn't know the 88-98 seats fit with just some drilling. I would add reinforcement plates though unless it's only for things like parades, farm work, or car shows. I may be getting an AD or TF truck soon and seat belts are first. I have also seen someone use leather seats from an old but clean land yacht of a Caddy. Black with big arm rests but I think there was no center console. Not sure though. I would personally get an 88-98 seat, recover it with new foam and in a fabric that matches the exterior paint. To the OP, what did you decide to go with?
