What was the sweetest part of your build?

For me it was the ones that I shared that build with. I will never forget the 10yr old neighbor, that just had to be involved. That old truck was stripped to the bare frame & & she had to help.... sent her home a couple times with black rustoleum on her(whizzed her mom off)! That little gal helped me paint the frame(brush paint), & she did really nice work Who am I to refuse a helping hand? I wish the hell ,that I got to have a daughter or 2 like her..... I got stuck with a couple "peckerwoods". She always called me "mister Al".....my wife was Misses Al. I just called her "baby girl". The sweetest part, Is that I got to share part of that build.....post your stuff... crazyAl

For me, it was my grandson helping me all the way from tear down to now ass

I'll have to join in on this one also. I have 5 grand kids, 2 of my grandsons love being in the shop with us. My son often will come over and work on his 260Z LS1 project. For me time in my shop with my family is the best part

I get to build with my dad. He is now 83 and still wants to work on trucks everyday. I opened my shop in 87 and he came out of retirement then. We have built hundreds of cars and truck together. Now, my son [20] helps out from time to time while not persuing his degree. That make for specail times. My wife and daugher tooka auto body class at night at the vo-tec so they could help out as well. FUN!! Jim

The very best part of my build was spending time with my son.We made memories that we will never forget.We lost our patients with each other and disagreed many times too.We made a pact that before we left the garage that we would hug and leave that day in the garage.Tomorrow is another day...Thanks Kaleb...enjoy your truck my man...I love you..

Favorite part of my build (still lots of work to go) so far was when I fired it for the first time and also my first cruise. My 9 year old son helped me a few times like when I put the bed on, now he wants to find an el camino to start building together for when he gets his license.

On my current build, a 67 Chevy 1 ton, finding the 5/8 spacer to move the water pump pulley out so I could run dual belts. Took two weeks to get it right. Its the small things that create perfection.

Although mine isn't done, Its the times between the work when the wife isn't complaining about how much money I spend on the truck.

There were a lot of milestones accomplished that brought a smile, but there were also some head-scratchers that had to be figured out too. I guess figuring them out brought the most satisfaction. I have an electronic Classic Instrument speedo that had to be programed for the wheel/tire combo, and T5 trans. I used my GPS for the speed base line then back at the shop I used a mirror while laying on my back to see the dip switches on the back of the speedo. I had to open or close the series of switches according to a graph to calibrate the speedo. It would not calibrate. Try and try again, no sir, won't straighten out. Then I had an epiphany! Dummy, I told myself, you're setting the switches in the reverse order because of the mirror! I reset the switches in reverse order, and amazing! It came right in. Another "Sweet success".

When I first saw this thread I thought I had nothing to contribute to it so I never read it. I just read it and realized I do.

I was not lucky enough to be able to raise my oldest son, that is a story for another time, but since he became a grown up and moved back in the area we have spent many hours working on these old trucks. He is more knowledgeable than I am about them and I have learned a lot from him.

We spent many hours combining parts from many trucks putting together a '67 swb stepper for me. We learned a lot about each other which was great.

I may never finish the restoration, but I value the time we spent together.

The best part of my build is getting to do it with my Dad and my Brother. They are both more skilled than I am at restoring and building vehicles but I learn something new everyday and they are always there to help me out when i need it. Being able to work side by side with them and having the pride of knowing I built this truck with the help of my family is great. Now I can't wait for it to be done lol so I can start hitting up some cruises and shows with my Dad.

I feel that one ! The wifey ask me one day "what are you gonna cut up on that old (damn old truck) next? She went to the store & came back 45 min later....the top was layin upsidedown on the table. The old gal looks up & says "what the hell was wrong with the top"? My reply, I think was about 4" too tall It was a 60 hr week, to primer, then another 10(cut and sand on the sheild). It cost me a total in materials around 500 bones to cut that top(glass included)& about 70hrs of my time! I guess I wanted that crazyAl

the sweetest part is every time i am driving it and someone gives me a thumbs up or stops and asks what year is it, have to agree with you Nate, all of the time!

this an i haven't even began to tear into my engine to see why it sounds like a hand-full of rocks bouncing around in the oil pan!
