Question what speakers do you all have in your truck?

I have a '72 GMC with factory A/C. What speaker set ups do you all have in your trucks that sound good. Pics would be appreciated. Thank you

Kicker. But you need more than just speakers. You need a well planned system which includes reasonable placement of the drivers for imaging. Here are some shots of mine, and what I think is the best solution for a mostly stock vehicle that could easily be returned to stock with new door panels. I have the stock seat and gas tank still in the cab. Not pictured is my Alpine 6 disc changer that goes under the driver's side. I cut my dash, but you could do the same using a dual knob stereo with changer controls. The door speakers are Kicker separates and the sub a Kicker free air 10. The "box" isn't really as it is open on the back and just sits on the floor.

I have 2 kenwood home theater speakers on brackets mounted to my kick pannel. I'm getting ready to buy some kick panel's for 6 1/2" speakers. I think gmc paul has them for $74 bucks or so.

for cheap and temporary music in my truck, i have a Pioneer 50Wx2 head unit, 2 (Brand X) 6x9's on the floor in boxes, and 2 (Brand X) 3.5's in the dash. If you can tell, I just pirated all of this out of my totaled Oldsmobile, including the boxes for the 6x9's (the speakers aren't OE, however). It doesn't sound too bad, but I think that if I had alot more money, it would be a lot cleaner.

Great location Mike C (you can always replace the panels if you wanted to go back to stock with minimal effort, smart!!) However I guess it really depends on how crazy you want to get Daves 72. I was thinking of installing the following Pioneer equipment, a CD player (mosfet 50watt X 4 rms) driving a pair of 6 1/2" TSD-160R's in the kick panel area (either home made pods or the aftermarket plastic ones that most vendors sell) and a pair of TSD-690R's 6" X 9" in the lower door panels toward the front (yes get the jigsaw out and start hacking away (you can always weld in new panels) and upgrading the system with a PRS-X340 300 watt amp. driving 2 more pair of TSD-690R's in a long rectangle type box installed just behind your legs along the floor pointing in a slight upwards direction (I've been designing one that will be buit out of MDF and possibly accommodate the head unit in the centre). The cost for this system alone is a major factor, but if purchased in pieces would not be all that overwelming for really CLEAN sound at high revs. (LOL), Regards Doug

I have a Panasonic CD head unit with a pair of JBL 3-way 6x9's in the back edge of the doors (were already cut by p/o) and a pair of 4" 2 way JBL's waiting for me to make some fibreglass pods for the kick panels. Not the best system in the world but it's OK for the moment. You can now get 6x9 subs in the UK so in the future I may upgrade the fronts to a set of components and replace the JBL's in the doors with subs and an amp under the seat.

Thanks 69 short fleet. I did this 3 years ago, and I always post when people ask stereo questions, but I don't think anybody else has done it. I also have 4" coaxials in the door of my Jimmy as well, just not separates as the roll cage tubes block where the tweeters would be. When I first did the stereo in '89, I had Alpine surface mount plates that were eventually replaced with some Boston plates. Not having the separate tweeters is not much of an issue since I also have 6 1/2" co-axials mounted high in the sidepanels behind the front buckets.

The doors get very boomy when you run much bass in them. The bass will also confuse any other drivers you have in the doors by pressurizing the back side of the mid-ranges. The low position of the speakers in the doors is so far from your ears, that high end imaging is very poor. This is helped immensely with just mounting the midranges in the doors. Because of the minimum depth to the lowered window, you have to be careful selecting your speakers. You MIGHT be able to run a low profile 5 1/4", but the fours sound killer IMO.

I am VERY pleased with how mine sounds. I have a 100x4 Crossfire amp that is bridged 200w into the free air and 100x2 into the separates.

Has any bought the new satellite radio? I was just wondering if it is worth the 10 dollars a month not to have any commercials.
