Cruise control wire ID help needed
Anyone know where this wire might go? (1970 stock cruise control) I looked on the papers mailed to me, and the stuff scanned and e-mailed to me and have not seen anything on it.
I see no place on the speed sensor there, and there is nothing close to it to hook onto... |

I'll have a look at mine tonight after work. I can shoot pics also. I can't gaurantee that it will be correct since mine is non-funtional at the moment, but it might give you a clue.
One of these days I'd like to get mine working again. I'd love to see the info you have on the CC. |

I went out and had a look. I don't have that brown wire at all. Just the 2 lug connector that you see in your pic. I'll still shoot a pic after work and post it.

Mine doesn't work because the PO decided to disconnect all kinds of stuff from it. The speedo cable, vacuum supply, hot wire for the switch in the cab... you get the idea. But I have NO loose brown wire anywhere. I'll get a pic in a bit.
BTW, where is you vacuum supply for the CC coming from? Manifold or carb fitting? |

Thanks. That helps a little. What exactly does the vaccum hose going into the cab connect to? Mine is just hanging loose under the dash.

Like yours, mine only has two wires on the one and only connector to the control unit. There doesn't seem to be another connector anywhere on it. There are also only two wires and the vacuum hose going into the cab.

The hose going into the cab goes to the brake light switch I think.

Hmmmm.....
That makes sense, but my brake light switch doesn't have a fitting for a vacuum line. Probably switched out at some point by the PO. On the other hand, in that diagram you posted it looks as if the "Vacuum Release Valve" may be a seperate unit. Does any if that info you have on the CC list the specific vacuum pressure required for the unit? I'll have to improvise a vacuum source since my manifold has been changed out. |

I'll try to get a pic, and now that you mention it, i think it is in fact seperate. The CC brake light switch should have 2 places for electrical plugs, and then a seperate switch for the vacume.
Like I said, i'll try to get a pic here in a bit. As for vac requirements...I'm not sure what it takes. There is probably a plug/bolt/allen bolt on your intake someplace that you can remove for this fitting. Every aftermarket one I have seen has holes to plug up. Well, all the street ones anyways...but I don't think you have a tunnel ram with 2 4ppls on it. |

It's an Edelbrock somethingorotheralloyjobby. I haven't looked real hard yet, but I haven't seen a plugged hole in it anywhere. I assumed th PO pulled the CC when he installed the manifold. But what do I know.

Here is the best I could do. I've had this stupid digi-cam for a year now and still can't take very good pics with it.
Oh well. My head is pretty much on the gas pedal, and the drivers door is to the bottom of the pic....for oreantation. |

ginter... what years your truck and does it list cruise as an option... I saw a cruise like that a week ago and passed on it.. thought the vacuum pod was a newer style...maybe I was wrong.

My truck is a 72 Cheyenne. IIRC, longhornmail and I discussed the cruise briefly shortly after I joined the board. I'm pretty sure this is a factory CC, but it has the under dash switch, so it may have been a dealer installed unit.
longhornmail - thanks for the pic. I'm going to look at mine again here in a bit. I think I'm missing that switch though. I saw this thread and pics of what look like it may be part of the brake disengagement circuit? |

That does kinda look like the switch on the pedal, but the rest of it doens't quite look right. But they did have a few styles on these so anything goes untill we can document EVERYTHING on the CC.

My brake pedal doesn't have the bracket yours does for the shutoff. It will take me awhile to get this one figured out.

the cruise on my 71 burb had a under dash switch and the cruise was listed in the glove box

For some reason, my glovebox sticker doesn't list the cruise. But it is a factory unit from all I can tell. That's why I suspect it was installed by a dealer.

I really wish my scanner worked on my computor!!!!!! Ive got all these diagrams and no way to send them to you......,IF ANYONE has a flatbed scanner,and a ORIGINAL,"1971 truck chassis service manual" go to Section 15,accesories,theres 6 pages of info & diagrams,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
