Chevy/GMC 2500 Fuel Mileage

Lately I've been seeing a lot of newer Chevy/GMC 2500 trucks with the gas 6.0L engine for sale (both 2WD and 4WD). I was just curious, what is the approximate highway and city fuel mileage of these trucks? Can't seem to find any stats online...

My dad has the 1500, which may or may not be comparable, he gets about 16 city, rarely hits the highway.

Re: Chevy/GMC 2500 Fuel Mileage

I drove one at work for a few months and the best answer that I can give is: Poor

It got like 13-15 MPG on country roads going to field to field and occasionally running to town, so that would be mostly highway. It had 300K on it and ran like a champ, I wouldn't mind one simply because of the reliability. It also pulled well, though we didn't pull very heavy stuff with it.

Thanks for the replies, I figured it couldn't be too great, was just wondering how bad.

Re: Chevy/GMC 2500 Fuel Mileage

I had 2004, 2006 and 2008 2500 GMC crew cabs, all 4WD with the 6.0 liter engine. They pretty consistently ranged from 10-11 MPG around town and about 14-15 on the highway, empty. They were all very reliable and pulled well, just really thirsty. Put a load behind them and it drops dramatically.

^^

My 03 1500HD 4x4 Crew with the 6.0 gets about 10-12 in town, and best it has got is 14.5 on an all interstate drive. I'm getting ready to take it and a trailer on a 4500 mile trip to Portland, WA and back the first week of January so I can give you some numbers from the trip.

Re: Chevy/GMC 2500 Fuel Mileage

I have the 2500 suburban with the 6.0 and the average is 12.7 mpg. On highway trips I can get up to 16 if I really try.

Re: Chevy/GMC 2500 Fuel Mileage

Almost all mid to full size SUVs and trucks in the past 30 years with V8s will see 13-16mpg city with no load or light load (under 2000 lbs).

Yup, 11-12 is what I average with mixed city/highway/rural driving. That's why my next one will be a D-Max!
