Re: wide white wall tire

I have friends that are running both Coker and Diamond Backs, None of them have complained about either brand. I was looking at WW for another project and found the Diamond Back brand to be cheaper. In the end I ditched the WW idea, too expensive for a daily driver.

Re: wide white wall tire

I want ww's but the tires that came on my truck when I bought it are too good to take off and then spend $800 on tires. This is what I'm considering:

I've been told that Portawalls are not recommended for radial tires.

Re: wide white wall tire

cheapest way is to get skinny whites or raised letters and have them cut down. Im about to make a figure that goes into my tire machine and turn it more or less into a tire lathe.

but diamondback or coker as previous stated are the only ones I know of. They are $$$.

Re: wide white wall tire

I know this has been talked about before but anyway.
The lucas porta walls are a great product. I've used them for the past 5 years. I'm on my 2nd set. I used them on a front set of 205-70-15 for a year and half before they went. The side wall flex is to hard on the w/w and ends up stretching them. I put a set of coker silvertown w/w on the front.
On the rear there is not as much weight on the tires and the porta-walls stand up much better. I had the 205-70-15 for 3.5 years before changing them up.Now have a set on n-50-15 and the still work ok. People are still amazed when they are checking them out and I snap them on the tire.
It also helps if you can get the raised black lettering ground off the tire before you get the porta walls mounted as any pattern on the tire seems to bleed thru the white wall.

Re: wide white wall tire

You can get Bias Ply Cokers with 3 1/2" WW for $119 each with free shipping. Got some coming soon. I like the Nostalgic look. Not a fan of radials, they look fake.

I ran my 65 Suburban, 61 Caddy, and my brothers 66 Truck on the highway doing about 65/70. never had a problem. Yes they tend to pull a little on uneven surfaces, but it's not that bad.

Someone suggested that they shouldn't be used with tubeless tires. Have you had any problems using them that way?

Love your truck, it's one of my favorites on the forum. It has the look I want for mine except mine will be LarkSpur (light) blue.
