the starter sticks on when I turn the key, any ideas why? we just took the nose cone off of a auto starter and put it on a manuel starter, which did work at the time.the only thing I noticed was diff. was on the silinoid(5 yrs of spelling didn't help) where the little bolt goes thru the copper bushing and attaches to the stater was alot shorter on the man. vs the auto. in a nut shell why won't the stater disengage?

I would guess that the sylinoid is staying energized or that the spring in the sylinoid is busted

spring is new along with the syliniod.

Does the starter gear have the same size/number of teeth? Flywheels (man) and flexplates (auto) may have different number/size of teeth, causing something to stick. I am just guessing but maybe something to check.

Is your switch returning from the start position to the run position ? Somebody had to ask.

i had this problem ..still kinda do ...it got alot better after i threw a few shims on .... strange though it still does it once in awhile

Yeah, once the sillynoid engages the gear, the disengage is spring activated. If the gear is binding too tightly to the flywheel this might prevent a disengage.

I can't see how this could be a sillynoid problem. Ah, a great excuse to use the word "Sillynoid" again.

Mine liked to do that when it gets hot!
So I riped it out and bought a small high torque starter
And will never go back. These things rock
and they sound mint too!!!

Does it keep cranking or does it just not disengage from the flex plate?

I like the flywheel idea, and the switch is ok,and it doesn't disengage from the flywheel. has NE1 ever changed the gear on a starter B4? how about the spacer/bearing at the end of the shaft, the thing the gear hits after its engaged?

Good luck resolving this. I am interested to know the end result.

I always buy everything I can w/ lifetime warranty. So far I have gone through...5 starters...for various reasons. Is it feasable to just replace the cylinoid? New starter is $39.
