Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I'm tired of sit'n on my weak spring pickup seat. Looking for newer seat choices. I guess I could rebuild it as the seat is in really good shape but can't find seat springs. The gentleman that had my 56 before I did was a little bigger than me so she's a little weak and a back killer after a 600 mile trip.
Lets see some of your seats with what they came out of. Thanks, Raymo |

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I have the same seat from 89 Chevy Truck. I cut lower brackets in pie cut and rewelded more of a tilt plus it sits lower in back of cab. I hate seeing top of seat in rear window it is just me no offense to anyone intended. Here are some pics sorry bad quality they are off phone I have new leather covers not installed so all you see is foam.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I do also think the back of the seat should be low. They just don't look right with high backs. I kind of like buckets too but that bench seat is nice to place things on when going down the road. No salvage yards close to me so I'll have to travel about 150 miles to go look I guess.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I don't really like the seat being visible through the rear window. There's a couple of trucks here in town that have them sticking up kind of high. I think entourageguy hit the nail on the head with his seat. It looks awesome in there, with a kick ass upholstery job to boot.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
Here's another option. Had Twisted Stitch build a custom bench based on a low side suspension seat. Gained gut and leg room...

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I understand what everyone says about the seat showing...but after being rear ended in a late model truck I can tell you a head boucing off a head rest beats the back glass any day. Plus, my dodge full size seats with integrated belts will keep me in that seat a hair better than a lap belt. I plan to put a little tint on the glass to keep the seats from being too visible.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I am in the process of using the bucket seats from an '04 Dodge Dakota.
Though not shown in the picture, it does have a center console that folds up for a 3rd seat, provided you are thin enough... |

I agree. While I havent had that unfortunate experience, I won't sacrifice safety for looks... just tint the windows and be done with it.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
Here are my fab photos, I have not done the final install yet. I agree with the headrest comments too, one of the reasons I went with a new seat. Safety trumps looks in my book. Seat is a 07 Yukon third row, I set it up to tilt and remove like stock.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
From just trial sitting seem to be ok. It's not a super cushy cushion, more like memory foam. Time will tell, but can't be much worse than the 2x4 and plywood reinforced stock one I put up with for 20+ years!

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I went with the new seats as well, but they are from an Escalade which has cupholders and a compartment between the seats. Can't beat it with the shoulder harness all intact. I mounted mine a little lower though, to keep them below the big back window. Just put on craigslist what I wanted and 2 weeks later had the seats.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
I parted out a '58 that we bought from an old timer last year. He had completely redone it 20 years ago for his daughter and did some cretive thngs, like welding in a 70's box floor - looked stock at first glance. Anyways, when I sat on the seat I couldn't believe how firm it was, so we took off the cover, a blanket and them two layers of carpet contact cemented to the original bagged out fabric. Man, for being on a budget, this approach really worked. That seat was awesome.
Probably not what you had in mind, eh?

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
Kim here are the pictures I promised you. I welded 1/2" bolts to the plate to anchor the seats. I just didn't finish the other side yet.

Out of 2003 Impala. Installation was straight forward. I think they will look pretty good in two tone vinyl.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
New guy with a 59 in progress. I'm trying to find a good seat for my project and stumbled across this site. Looks like you all have come up with some good ideas. I would probably direct this towards Entourageguy as it would appear that his seat would be a nice fit for what I'm looking to do. You said 88 to 98 seats will fit if I read correctly. Did you have to anything with the exception of the mounting to get it to fit? It really appears to fit nice. Any hints or other suggestions? Thanks in advance for any input. Wouldn't mind seeing some wheels/rim ideas either as I'm getting close to the finish.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
basically I set the seat in with the base between the two raised portions and bolted it in.Some guys cut a wedge out of the base to lean the seat back but so far the stock has worked for me.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck
Thanks Brian, went to your garage and noticed a different seat from the one posted here. Don't mean to be nosey but whats the story with that. I like the one you have with the fold down center. Would you mind sharing a little more info on that as to what that came out of and why you changed it. Thanks,Mark
